The answer is she does! Life jacket, coat, shoes, and shad slime included she weighs about 40lbs. The fish came in at 42lbs so weight advantage goes to the fish. Sheer determination and meanness goes to her. Fish loses! After being inside for 2 days with cold, rain, and wind one of my daughters wanted to enjoy some water time and I was much obliged to make that happen. Her twin and momma had shopping plans. Splashed the boat at Lewisville about 1:30 and fished until about 4:00. Started out cloudy but cleared off and was a really nice day. Caught a few shad and had lines in the water by 2. McKenzie had her first fish in the box by about 5 minutes after, released a 20lber shortly after that, and then it was game on! Any time I take my girls I try to modify the game plan just a bit, fishing around thick stumps isnt a great idea but finding a happy medium is sometimes difficult because you have to fish where the fish are. This was the perfect spot, a tree line with a clear area, closest trees besides the tree line were 50 yards awaywell, 42lbs of angry fish in 3ft of water and drag light enough for a 5 year old to hold the rod equates to those trees being too close. I ended up having to help unwrap the fish on a tight drag and drag him back towards the boat before handing the rod back over and McKenzie finishing the job. If not for that and my lack of a tape measure she would be the new junior catch and release record holder on Lake Lewisville. By 3:30 she was wanting to show off her picture at home and play with her sister so we started packing it in. Total count was only 4 fish, 2 for the box, and 2 released. One of those I have a feeling I will never forget and I hope she doesnt either.
