Anybody using a gas motor? If so, what size are y'all using. I have a 30lb thrust trolling motor and I'm thinking about getting a gas motor.

I have a 10' Pelican and I use a 2.5 Mariner 2 stroke, it will get me 4-5 mph with 2 adults, gear, and trolling motor on front. It only weighs 28 pounds and sips gas.

Thats awesome! I run that battery down on mine after a few hours. A gas motor would be very nice.

Do you run it on top speed alot? If I keep mine on three or less I can run all day without a problem,,,

If you get an outboard you will only need to use your trolling motor for "fishing" therefore you will only need to use the low speeds. The result will be less battery drain. This opens your battery for other uses, I have a depth finder, LED lights, and a phone charger all running off my battery. I use the smaller size deep cycle battery which is much lighter and takes up less valuable space and I can still cover a couple of miles of fishing depending on the wind. My outboard also doubles as a rudder and weight balance in the back allowing you to track straight with your trolling motor. If you do decide to go with an outboard, find one that has a built in gas tank, this will save up more valuable space on your boat. Mine is a 2 stroke, from what I understand there is problems with 4 strokes and laying them down, which is tough for transportation, if this is true keep this in mind while shopping.

not sure they make 2 strokes anymore, 4 stroke is fine and a 2.5 is more then enough for these little guys
