I don't post on here as much as I used to,but I agree it seems like most of the posts on here come from lakes around north Texas. Mostly Tawakoni,Lavon,Worth,Texoma, and so forth. I think alot of good catfisherman probably don't even know how to turn a computer on, and while we are on here typing away they are out there right now catching fish. Not knocking the forum, because the few years I have been on here, I have caught more catfish than I ever thought I could from the tips I picked up on here. What really cracks me up is when I hear alot of guys that fish Tawakoni on here call a 30 pounder a dink,or they catch a couple of 40 pounders and call that a slow day. Yes,on Twok that might be but on lakes that I fish around centex area you might fish all winer long trying for that 30 or 40 pounder. So when you hear guys say stuff like that it kind of leaves a bitter taste in your mouth. I think people on here put to much emphasis on catching big fish all the time also.

I fish belton and waco and been on tawakoni 3 times. Biggest fish iv caught on r&r is 10 lbs and that was this past sunday. Im happy catching a mess of box fish but would love to get one of those 30 lbers.

Brazos County here. I think the domination of the forum by North Texas folks has to do with the kind of people you're dealing with. Up there, folks are a little bit more loose in the mouth, more likely to tell you what lake they've been fishing and how they've been doing. I'm down here going to school and hear very little in the way of catfishing news, although the photo board at Gander Mountain lets me know there's plenty of big cats being caught. I fish down here pretty often myself, but keep my mouth shut as to the exact location. Folks in my area just seem to be a bit more tight lipped.

Perhaps the guys "up here" don't mind sharing the fish....after all, we have plenty enough to go around. In my opinion it's word of mouth. We share info and help each other and become a community of sorts, and we use the forum as a way to communicate.

I'm in Canyon Lake, which is just north of the San Antonio area. I think that the DFW and surrounding areas are blessed with having some great fisheries. I don't consider the forum to be tailored for the north Texas fisherman, but it's more of the fact that there are a lot more active members from that area. I'll take any info from any Texas fisherman! Steven

If we can ever break this drought out here we might have some water to fish in to talk about.
At least my boat and truck are paid for, woo hoo!

east texas here. i read what the dfw people put on here it's helped me improve my catch. i don't post as much as they do because i don't have as much to say. while i go catfishing a lot, i don't focus as much on them as those guys do. i more often than not can be found posting on the bank fishing or bluegill/sunfish forum. but i read all of them. as for the number of lakes around... lets see, i've got livingston here, conroe, sam rayburn, and toledo bend all within reasonable(to my wife) driving distance. all seem to produce good catfish.

The main thing I like about this forum is the friends and new fishin buddy's I have met by communicating thru this forum. I fished for channelcat for 35 years and never new there were so many people enjoying the same fishing I did. Until 2009 when I found this forum, I didn't know you could even target big blues with r&r. I am very fortunate and blessed to live near some very good fisheries, it almost makes it tolerable to put up with the metro mess!! This forum and many like it makes it possible to meet like minded people to learn from but also to share some fishin trips, with the gas prices right now that really helps! In my opinion it doesn't hurt anything to share info on your trips and where you caught them. Remember that what you think is your honeyhole, fifty other people already think it's theirs!! Share your knowledge, meet some new friends and take a kid, soldier or newbie fishin!! You just might find you receive more than you give!!!

This is a good thread. I think one point has been missed. "Mr. Fabulous" is based up here.

The thing is that we live here around Lewisville, and Bobby has all the fish trained to come to his boat when he is on the water and nobody else can catch any fish out of it We are blessed with some quality catfishing lakes within an hour or two of the DFW area that hold good numbers of both trophy and eating size fish.

I moved to the DFW area 2 years ago from Cedar Park. Like many centeral Texas contributiors, I fished Lake Travis primarly. In the past I have caught good numbers of eating catfish out of Travis, over baited holes. However after moving to this area, I have been amazed at all the available fishing areas that are actually in the DFW metroplex. For hours fished, my catfish catch has been way above average up here. Unfortunately several of the area fishing holes have consumption bans/warnings so a lot of my trips have been catch and release. Still a lot of fun. Fished with Bobby last October, and had a blast. I think we had about 25 box fish at the end of the trip, and he felt like the bite was a little slow. I have never had a trip like that at Travis. This area has a large number of good lakes just outside the metroplex that are excellent catfish lakes, and you can eat the fish. Next week I am moving back to Leander and look forward to catfishing on Travis and crappie fishing on Georgetown. But it is unlikely that I will ever be able to have the weight per fish average that I have had fishing the Trinity river in Irving. I have also discovered that the more I post and ask questions, the more "friends" I make. Folks in this area have gone out ot their way to help me learn to catch buffalo.(more difficult that I imagined) I have appreciated every bit of help/tips I have received.I will miss being here because of the nice folks and the abundance of fishing opportunities.
Thanks
Mike
