Just curious if there is a reason to fish carp other than the thrill of the fight. I never heard of them being good to eat. Just askin'.

Most of us are Catch and Release Fisherman. When we are looking for a meal we go for those little green sunfish things.

I understand. I'm not much of a catch & release kind of guy. I go more for catch & grease.

Carp can be a challenge to catch. Figuring out what use for bait, locating the fish, and the reward of a great fight. Also, for many of us, carp fishing is as much of a social event as a catching event. Many of us, (and you know who you are.lol) are not catching, and enjoy sitting on the bank and B.S.ing with our buddies.

You can camp and fish FOR DAYS

You can drink and still fish

You can hook fish while youre sleeping

You don't have to deal with treble hooks

You can fish off the bank successfully

They get big compared to other freshwater fish

They make great bait for other kinds of fishing

They pull hard

They smell great (Jk)

1. Because it is a challenge
2. It relaxes me
3. I hate boat noise, I prefer a serene bank
4. I like tying rigs and over thinking things
5. Carp gear is sexy

I tend to over think fishing. Please help me.
When I am over complicating something please kick me in the face. Hard.

A lot of us started out as the usual bass crappie catfish type of fisherman so we understand too.But after you get a few carp on purpose its hard to go back. They fight so hard its an adrenaline rush every time and a lot of fun.

I still like catching and eating, but just not carp. smile

Carp grow BIG, they're tough fighters, and I've always marched to the beat of a different drummer... wink

Typical Texas Carper's story...

I used to fish for bass/sunnies, but accidentally caught a Carp. The fight was awesome compared to what I has been getting. Since I was fishing for fun instead of food, Carp were the logical choice.

When the introduction of the World Wide Interweb came about, I found other guys in DFW fishing for Carp, and I saw their crazy gear and became determined to get my own.

Nowadays, the only time I really get to sleep is when I fish. The alarms make that possible. Also, I enjoy competing, so I fish tournaments whenever I can.
