Someones not taking care of their fish right if you think bass are nasty, i have eaten them out of ponds, lakes, rivers, and they all taste good, not quits as good as Crappie, but IMHO, better than catfish.

Some people....Did it not cross your mind that the fish is going to taste like the water he's caught from. A Lake Livingston bass tastes really fishy and I wouldn't eat it...but a Rayburn or Amistad bass tastes great. But once I started cutting the red meat off of white bass I've learned they taste great...so no more black's will be killed by me.

You need to learn how to filet and cook fish.

I have eaten Bass many times, tastes just as good as crappie, catfish, or any of the smaller sunfish. Actually, the 1 lb bluegills are probably the best out of all of those. To each their own.

Crappie tends to be a little mushy as compared to bass. Bass have the flakey texture that I prefer. My favorite is yellow bass, followed by black bass, catfish, crappie and then sand bass. I normally dont clean a black bass over 2 pounds and have never had one that tasted bad.

I think I'll stick with eating fish that come out of the ocean instead of ponds and lakes. Truthfully I had no idea so many guys ate Bass.

I take and clean about 15 1-3 lb bass a year in the spring and put in the freezer. Just enough to fill my needs. As far as taste goes, i have found that the colder the water and the deeper you catch them, the better they taste. Febuary is when i keep most of mine.

I've eaten a a couple of dozen overs....summer fish or winter fish that come in after an all day boat ride, or a gut hook... It happens.

If the taxidermy doesn't want them, I fillet them...they are actually ok if you soak in lemon juice and bake them. Not so much fried.

John Leeder used to have a pick of my 12lber I filleted 4 or 5 years ago. I personally don't see people keep overs to eat or mount anymore, lots of people fillet unders...which is fine with me.

Bass are my favorite. Like the guy said above crappie are not as firm as the bass meat. I love to grill bass with the skin on or fry it. I never keep one over 16 inches on any lake.

Bass are very good eating. Get you five 14-16" bass out of Amistad and you won't find a much better meal.

Bass over catfish all day. 5 lbers taste the same as 2 lbers unless your being politically correct.

I used to eat more bass when the limits were higher on the number you could keep. But to keep just five isn't worth it to me to clean. Now 25 crappie..yes.I love the taste of bass out of clear water. But out of a small pond or mossy small lakes I don't think they taste very good.
