Is a 08 premium Navionics card compatable with the HDS units or do I need a newer card to work in it?

Your 08 card will work fine in your HDS unit.

Never seen a school of fish like this before, it was huge. Saw them breaking on the surface and marked them on the lowrance HDS 10.

Try the 800 kHz unless you are shallow scanning. Try the brown pallet with distance set to 80'. Play around with the contrast 60-70. Your wpts won't show up if you are zoomed in until you are very close to them.

Yes GTO, the slow speeds could be your problem. I'll let Dayne help you out though, he knows more about that graph.

I run down all the time and speed doesn't seem to be a factor with it like it is with side imaging. One thing you should watch for is trolling motor interference. I have had it from the git go and the motor was taken in for warranty work of new brush holders and internal grounding. It is better but still there. Here are what my down images look like.
