I hope you get some response to this. My daughter and son in law now live in that area. So, I am wanting to wet a hook there myself.

Last year the crappie fishing was not very good in the Spring per my experience. Several years prior, I would rate the Spring crappie fishing as good. Crappie you catch are very good crappie. Full moon in March has been best time for me. With the mild winter full moon in February could see some staging fish. I was there last week in December and the crappie fishing was poor at the 99 bridge. Year prior, the bridge produced a very nice limit about the same time of the year, but the next day was a bust. I don't get to fish Choke as much as I like, so my assessment may not be very accurate. Most of my fishing has been in the Spring. In the past 5 years the crappie seem to spawn deeper (4-8 ft)than they did years prior when you could catch them in 1 ft or less. I plan to stop at Choke on my way to Falcon the week of Feb 6th. Will know more then.

Not aware of a crappie guide on Choke, most guides there fish for bass. Hope this helps.

I have had mixed results year to year. I keep going back and trying because of the massive size of the ones I have caught. I have spent most of my time around the Mason Point area and 4 years ago pulled a 3.05 Crappie out of that area. Every time I get into them I get at least one 2 pounder. The problem is I only get into them about 25% of the time. I have went 1 day and had good success, and gone back the next and caught absoutely nothing. Same weather, same bait, same place....and no fish. Can't quite figure it out. Going to expirament in some different areas for them this year. My best luck has been in late February with large minnows under slip bobbers in about 2-6 feet of water. Maybe could get into them in March, but it's hard to keep me from chasing LMB when the spawn is on. I have had moderate success on the grass lines as well with road runner jigs and long rods, but minnows have been best. My best luck has also been when the lake level is down about 7-10 feet. Don't know if that helps. Something tells me that the guys that are drilling them out there are keeping it quiet. I see a lot of old guys out there chasing them as well, and most of them don't use the internet I think. Keep the updates going on this. I could use the help myself.

Guess all those gators like to eat crappie as much as us humans. I have not heard or seen many reports from Choke on the TFF for crappie.

Keep on fishing.

I hate this! No, I'm not really a hater.

ONE of the reasons I decided to move to San Antonio when I retired is that we love to eat crappie, and we could catch them at the 99 bridge. Another reason is because the LMB fishing was good.
The higher the cost of fuel, coupled with the poor reports from Choke,.....the more we'll fish Calaveras (for eating size channel cats).

I may not hate alligators at Choke, but I certainly have ZERO love for them (wish they lived somewhere else, they eat too many of the fish I like).

Need to improve my LMB fishing, running out of time.

Still to early for crappie at Choke per my experience. Fished there 2/10 and caught 1 crappie 2 whites and 2 bass in the cove below the 99 bridge. Water temp was 55. Decide to head to Falcon per original plans. Cold front came in on Sunday and it rained all day Monday. Crappie did not turn on until Wednesday, when water temp warmed up to 61 (was 56 after front). Caught a limit of big crappie, took two one gallon zip lock bags to hold the fillets. Thursday the bite was not as good but still managed 21 crappie. Since I was four short of my two day posession limit, I decided to head back home. Decide to fish Choke on my way back. Fished the Mason Point area and caught 1 crappie, water temp was 56. Decided to try fishing the 99 bridge area, since water usually warms faster up river. Found colder water at 55 degrees and the water was off colored. Choke is 2-3 weeks away for the Spring bite to start assuming water warms to at least 60 degree. Hope this helps.

You say you caught crappie at Falcon? I have been trying for 3 months and can't seem to find them on this lake this year. Mind sharing where? PM me if you want to, please. You don't have to give me you exact spot, just the kind of water and structure and area of the lake would be great.
