For fairly cold weather (not rain) I can get by with walking shoes and some type of acrylic sock like "diabetic socks" or Fruit Of The Loom Work Pro Gear socks which I got at Walmart. These are thin enough to fit comfortably under my regular walking shoes. If the rain kicks in hard I slip on some overshoes. The total combo is a little heavy though--but cheap.
