With all the talk of the lake being on fire, how safe is it down there right now? Alot of news stories and what not when you research the lake are not painting a very safe picture. I guess what i am wondering is, has anyone went down there and had any uncomfortable situations or know of anyone that has? Should i even be concerned?

Stay on the Texas side if you feel uncomfortable, plenty of water to fish and lots of big fish being caught right now. I fish a lot on the Mexico side and have not had any problems.

Pretty safe. I think you have a better chance of being shot here at a store or hit by a car than you would have anything happen there. I have been going for 5 years now and never had a problem and I have never heard a gun shot. I am headed that way soon but not soon enough. Lots of toads ! Good Luck ! Have Fun !

I will bring up one thing that can ruin your day, be very careful where you run on plane on the mexican side, as there are gill nets EVERYWHERE! These things are all over the lake, right up to the midline of U.S. and mexican water. You run over one of these nets and it will ruin your day!

Many are not marked or do not have floating buoys.
I got very frustrated with this yesterday. I can work with marked nets but unmarked nets really suck.

Heck yeah especially the ones that are on cable sets off the bank and run several hundred yards out from the bank! I snagged one of those with a crankbait that opened my eyes up big time.

Just got back last week. Fished both sides. Have been going for 20 years. Absolutely nothing to worry about except those horrible nets!!!

Also watch out for fences that run completely across a creek.

Is there any worries about running up on shallow spots or rock piles anywhere aside from close to the bank?

Is it legal to carry a weapon on the lake if you have a Concealed Carry License?

Its legal to have a weapon on your boat only in Texas waters and you must be 21 years of age for pistol. The radification of the castle doctrine extended the "privacty of your own home to your vehicle" As far as carying in mexico, do so only if you wanna be put in a mexican prison and eat burritos for the rest of your life.

I go down about a 10 times a year... fish mexico every single day im there. Not once have a felt unsafe. btw someone got shot and killed in downtown dallas lastnight..... yall be careful in the Big D.
