Just catch the fish and the rest will work itself out.

Odds are it will be caught on livebait, bait is the biggest part to the equation.

If I catch a world, or even lake record I won't care about getting free gear, I'll be happy enough with the fish.
I understand what your saying, but if you applied these principles to other things, your life would have way too much stress. What if your heading down to the casino? Do you wear something special in case you hit a jack pot? My thought is wear whatever you want, if your always trying to be noticed by someone or some company then more power to you.

I carry a sharpie so I can add whatever company I want at the time or multiple ones if I'm feeling generous.

I haven't thought of what clothing I would wear. But I will admit, I have thought about what would happen if I caught a World Record Bass and what equipment I was using at the time.
And yes, Skeeter, Abu Garcia, Owner's hooks, and Tri-line would all be getting a letter from my attorney requesting endorsement deals... Why wouldn't you!

No, never even crossed my mind. However, I have thought about rod, reel, line and lure manufacturers. You're going to get a lot more mileage from the big companies than the mom and pops. Of course, we're only dreaming here.

I haven't had any companies furnish me any of their clothing for using their stuff yet so no I wear whatever.... The only company apparel I wear is Skeeter stuff. I doubt they will sponsor me if I catch something worth talking about.

By wearing the clothes your going to get less. Why would a company pay you anything for advertising when you aready had pictures and advertised for free. The help wont come in the fashion world, it will come after you catch the fish and it becomes known to that company that you used thier reel, rod, bait, then they will want to post pictures of you and use the fact you caught with thier reel in ads. The less you say on your own in the public the more attention you will get from companies to get the word out.

I have not thought too much about it, since I don't live in Japan or California. I do wear one brand of clothing fishing just because I like their stuff (Columbia)-so if I ever catch a record bass that's who I'll contact. As for equipment, maybe a mid size company that could really use a marketing boost would be best. Some company like strike king does not probably need marketing help as much as smaller companies-who knows. I don't think that guy Kurita? from Japan made a lot of dollars for his record, but it was on live bait and in Japan, so here if a record bass was caught on artificial it would be different.

I agree with waterlogged. Why would they need to talk to you? The saying is "pic is worth a thousand words", no need to get your words. Read an article about a guy who killed the world record Whitetail years back. He said it was a PITA to get anything monetary from anyone. Bottom line is that only a handful of guys around would have the contacts or knowledge of how to make catching a fish like that turn some sort of profit. I say catch it, enjoy the 15 minutes of fame and then get back to fishing. Anything else is gonna be like work, and I already got a job.

I dream of being sponsored by Taylor Oil, or is it a nightmare. I may just watch too much Honeyhole.

Thats why I keep velcro non sponsor, but potential sponsor patches handy. But for me, as long as my rod color matches my shirt, I am good.
