I don't recommend it ..
but I have had a Bay Star on a 175 for three years with no problems..I don't know why HP has a bearing on a Hydro system..
now really high speed may (torque), but I don't understand that either..
its a self contained system, so how do it know..

I know that the baystar is rated to 150HP Max and 60 mph. Well that just about fits my boat to a tee. I hardly ever touch 60 mph in my boat. Especially with two of us completely loaded down.

I would hate to but the baystar and have a $550 failure a year later.

However, the $550 price tag does look a lot better than the $1000 price tag of the Seastar Pro.

I think the baystar is still better and safer option than the 1 cable steering you have now. I saw a guy selling referbed seastar systems for like $550.If I can find the info I will post it for you.

I was assuming if the cables were $400 then he was looking at a dual cable system? if he is at $400 for single cable then that is way overpriced! I changed out my dual cable system a couple of weeks ago. If you don't have to pull the motor it is one of the easiest things to do on a boat smile

Yeah my system is a backmount rack dual cable system. $400 for replacement cables. Luckily for me, I have a 10" jackplate so there was no need to remove the motor to get the cables out.

I'm just trying to decide which hydraulic steering I should go with. I plan on keeping my boat a while.

Basshole9, I would go with the SeaStar vs the Baystar system. The SeaStar is built stronger internally and will provide better service in the longer run for you. The Baystar systems are fine for like lower h.p. applications like pontoon boats and small alum. boats. Give me a call and I can explain the details to you. Basshole9,

give Butch a call, he was extremely helpful when I was looking at going to hydraulic and went out of his way to get me some options available at an extremely reasonable price. In the end I went back with dual cable since gander mountain had a save $50 on more then $150 purchase and I had a gift card as well. the nfb dual cables steers wonderfully to me.
