all costs of operating the boat is gas and oil, the insurance and payment is on them. Your entry is 20% less, but you make less, its balanced. I always pay my fair share, most of the time way more..I wouldnt ever pay 100 though, 60 is still pushing it.

Last year at the Arkansas River Open, I was running full throttle down river 25 miles, running around the area some, and then running 25 miles back to the weigh in. My Co-Angler for the day gave me $20!!! That is unacceptable in my opinion. $20 might have been enough 20 years ago but not with gas $3.69 a gallon at that time.

Were you fishig the tournament hoping the co would pay your bills?
I'm all for paying my share and yes that is lite in my opinion but would it mattered if you went 5 miles or 60? You were going to run where you were going to run

If I don't run that far and a Co angler gives me too much money, I dont take it all. I am 100% serious. At Table Rock I was only within a few miles of the launch and my Co Angler gave me $60. I took $25!
The Co's are in a tournament too and you are trying to get them bit as well as yourself.

I have guys not take what I had offered more than than take it
I agree try to pay your way as a co but boaters shouldn't expect them to pay for it all
The ones that piss me off are the ones that expect it and almost demand it

I had a boater in the Illini Division run 70 miles 1 way on the 2 day tournament, he went all the way to Ky lake dam, he caught 2 fast fish and said he was going to save that spot for the next day, but he wanted half the gas money for 140 miles, when I got my fish 120 yards from the ramp where we weigh in. I am about as fair as a person can get what is offered, but If someone is going to run 50 miles and wants extra money, they better prove they were on some fish.

I agree that you should not expect the CO to PAY for your day but it needs to be a reasonable amount. We all know that $20 will not get you far these days.

It was your decision to run 25 miles down river, full throttle. $20 is fairly cheap, Id offer more than that, but it was your decision to make that run, not the co-angler. In your mind, what was an acceptable amount of money, for that trip and did you make the same run the next day?

Most of them do a minimum of $40. Even at registration, the tournament director advises the Co anglers to share expenses at a reasonable price. He always says "$20 dont cut it anymore guys". And by the way, 25 miles was nothing there! We could lock two locks up or one down. That is over 80 miles of the river

I do know 20 isnt much, I offer well more than that. My thing is, I been around long enough, I know what the cost is and what half is, I offer over that. I dont want someone telling me what to pay unless its the amount I figured. I know some trips are long, and those trips cost..But I have had people make runs and never even got bit, They only went there because they caught fish in that spot last year. Why should I pay for stupidity. If the boater is catching fish, I dont even have to catch any to know he ran to that area for a legit reason. If the boater is on fish tournament day, I normally give a little extra for his gas when he prefished, If you havent fished a lake for 9 months and you make a 60 mile run Im not paying more than about 40 bucks at most. Being fair is one thing, a lot of boaters where I come from think that all non boaters are newbies and easy to get over on. I will offer 40 is 40 is fair more if that is fair, If you ask for 80. Im probably going to give you 35 and charge you 5 bucks for trying to play me as a fool. As a coAngler, I cant stand it when other Co's skip out without offering anything or B**** when they dont catch anything, If the boaters is around fish and the Co dont catch fish, its most of the time his fault. If he got back boated all day. he has a legit complaint why he didnt pay.

That is over 80 miles of the river $20 is too low, Im not gonna argue that for a second. $40 is minimum I will offer for gas and it will depend on how the day went from there (the price can go up and in rare cases, down lol). The first year I fished the Weekend Series, I drew Scott and we all know how well that worked out (for him lol). It was an enjoyable day on the water for me, netting his fish and learning alot. I offered $60 and he wouldnt accept more than $25. Granted, we didnt do alot of running, but to me it was a great day on the water so I wanted to offer extra. He won, for either the 2nd or 3rd consecutive year, I did manage to pick one off behind him so for me it was a slow day as far as catching, but an absolute pleasure to watch and learn from a guy like him.
