Actually 98% of all batteries do not come from 1 of 2 or 3 places. There are actually about 6-8 different manufacturers of batteries. However 98% of all batteries do come from these manufacturers. They are not all manufactured the same though. Each battery company that contracts the manufacture of their product provides their own specs for their own product. JCI (Johnson Controls Incorporated) manufactures batteries for Autozone, Sears and Interstate. These batteries ARE NOT the same.

I am using Wal-Mart batteries to run my 74 lb trolling motor, and the only day I noticed them running down appreciably I was fishing open water in a wind of about 15-20 mph all day, running the TM on high a lot chasing schooling fish. I felt like any batteries I've ever had would have had a hard time holding up that day.
I will never buy another Continental battery. I've had bad luck with two of them.

Used Wal Mart bateriies for two years now, no problems. Like everyone else has indicated if you ever have a problem you can take back quick and simple.

Tricky, I did the same thing a week ago. Bought larger size (29-31) trays @ Fun N Sun for about $15.

I have used Everstart from Walmart for years. Place is great, every year my batteries seem to go bad just before the full replacement warranty expires and Walmart gives me new ones

FYI The Marine Maxx batteries (the big yellow ones) are a Class 29 and will not fit the battery boxes or trays that come in boats. Most trolling motor batteries are a Class 27. These are the size boxes and trays that are installed. Cranking batteries are a Class 24. Remember the Class 29 batteries are larger which means more weight. More weight means bigger lead plates in the battery, means more AMP Hours. The Marine Maxx batteries carry a 3 year warranty. For the money they are the best buy.

Continental batteries create a vaccum. In laymans terms they s@ck. Anyway The optimas I installed and the Voyagers I used in the past have been great. The biggest reason for battery problems remains, not charging as soon as you get home. Any battery will last longer doing this and not waiting till the night before your next trip. Biggest drawback to mantainence batteries is having to remember to add water which is a pain when they are in the boat.

Question about buying a new battery. I did some shopping today at Walmart and Autozone and this is what I found out there. I have a 42# 12/24V MotorGuide trolling motor. Which is the best battery for my money? I don't know what the numbers in the model number and specifications mean.? EverStart Deep Cycle Model: 27DC-6 Specs: 720-600 $54.93 EverStart Dual Cycle Model: 24DP-4 Specs: 675-550 $59.86 EverStart Starting Model: 24MS-6 Specs: 625-500 $42.93 Duralast Deep Cycle Model: 24MDL-DL Specs: 685-140 $59.99 Duralast Deep Cycle Model: 27DPDL Specs: 1000-150 $69.00 I have an EverStart starting 24ms-6 for my old 50HP Johnson motor which works great. Can I buy the same battery for a trolling motor since it is a little cheaper? Which one would you guys buy? Thank you.

Do any of you guys use those Gel-cell batteries for trolling or starting up the motor? If so, are they good, better or the same as a regular one?

Got two everstarts (Wal Mart) in my boat right now. One is 1.5 years old the other is 1 year old. No problems yet?? If I get 1.5 more years out of either one they are well worth the low cost.
