I agree with Andrew. If your in the boat land I'm not slowing down for you. Take luces bayou on lake Houston in spring for example. If u idled for all the crappie fisherman it would take 2 hours to go from mouth to 2100 bridge. Hell with that, they are in the boat lane. If it's safe enough you run it.

Life is short, if you have to ask if you should slow down then you need to come off of plane and idle by.

guess I am different. When I used to fish Cooper Lake a lot people would always be fishing the boat lanes in the timber. I would always get off plane a good distance away and idle by and then take off after I'd passed them 50 yds or so. Just common courtesy. They have just as much right to be in the lane as you do, crappie fishermen included. Is it gonna kill you if you take an extra 3 or 4 minutes out of your day to be polite and ease around somebody that is trying to fish? Too many people these days are all about me and "it's legal so I'm gonna do it" regardless if it's the right thing to do. I see it all the time on Sandlin with boats, most of them bass boats, flying under the bridge while the poor old men are tied up trying to crappie fish and getting their boats beat to pieces from the wake of the bass boats. It's not a no wake zone so they run it wide open without regard to anybody else.

Love this answer!!! I fish kickapoo creek on livingston very often and there are crappie fishermen all over the sides. They get upset when you stay on a plane in the channel even when they are 40 yds away. Funny cause the bass fishermen in there never even turn around, guess we just expect it. So if im not fishing a tourney I'll power idle by them throwing a way bigger wake. Guess it makes em feel better if you are going slower...for whatever reason. If I'm tourney fishing...Trim it high and let it fly baby!

It irritates me to see boats of any type fishing in the boat lane, unless I want to fish in the boat lane. I know if I do there are those who will run it, many have already said so right here. I most always slow down well in advance and creep by. It's a bigger picture.

IMHO, there should be a rule against fishing within some reasonable distance (100 feet or so) from a marked boat lane. Crappie fishermen were all over the boat lane on the west side of Fork a month ago. I stayed on plane and went about 25 yards around them, but I don't think every other boater should be forced to come off plane or risk a lower unit because one person wants to fish in the boat lane. It's all about courtesy, I know, but I guess you just have to decide which is less courteous: fishing in the boat lane and forcing dozens of other boaters to slow down or detour or forcing fishermen to not fish close to the boat lane. To each their own, just my $.02

ive had both happen to me... guys slowly idling by asking how i was doing and guys blow by me...

yes I expect someone will blow by me if im in a lane... but i think a lot more of the guy who slows down and idles through.. not talking a nose up plow idle... talking no wake idle... and most guys will be nice enough to do that in most places ive fished..

if your in a tournament or there isnt much room without risking a stump (like at Fork) i understand... but pleasure fishing and no risk of hitting something by slowing down... its a straight up dic move IMO

I would have to see the exact locations. There are a couple holes I fish on fork that are very close to the boat lanes. I always make sure I don't block any boat traffic. I just expect people to stay on plane and fly by.
