Anyone own a teardeop, thinking I may build one of these to haul boats and atv. What do youall think, looks like it would be fun. ![](http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/s720x720/549536_375179105887094_873785573_n.jpg)

Great looking boats you make there. You ever try the frame out of PVC pipe? Want to build my own but hard to find the styrofoam that is solid. Found some thick enough but its preformed on the inside to ship things in, so basically hollow on the inside. Not looking to buy the expensive stuff that they sell outright lol. Make the cost to much to build one.

I personall have not made one from pvc but have seen simular one made from it, you would have to use pretty big pvc to get any strength though, I think the boats that I seen we mak of 2 inch. I don't know where you are but if you have a tractor supply or nothern tool close sometimes they will give away blocks of foam. They use it to seperate utility traulers during shipping. Hope this helps.

Yep have both of them here have to call them and see what they say about getting some of those from them. I have a welder but do you braze those together or weld? i have a mig here at the house but no tank just flux core wire and not the best weld out of it with that especially in conduit like it seems your using. Your right abut the strenth but i think that big of pvc would start to get expensive lol. Ill see what i can come up with and report back on it here Thanks

I made one many years ago from discarded, approximate 3'X 6'X 2' foam block from a dock that was being refurbished. More rugged and higher density than shipping foam, no glue, no frame, simply cut 2 pontoons from the material. Two threaded rods 3/4" plus a smaller 1/2" below were used to bolt thru forming a triangle. Added a small platform and low beach chair, so you were down low and stable. Worked well, but the foam absorbed some water. Pics of the general idea below, but mine sat slightly above float tube level and was nicer looking setup. http://www.fishingfury.com/20090312/how-far-would-you-go-just-for-fishing/Porta

what is the technical name for the styrofoam? Talked with a man today willing to sell me some, but when her started naming off what he has, it was all French to me.

The frames are make from 3/4 and 1/2 emt conduit, I weld mine with flux core wire, no gas, welding, welding galvanized metal is not good for you so be careful. The foam is, I think polystirene,it is the little white balls, hope this helps

Mine was high density polystyrene, orange in color with a thin coating. Here is a something along the same lines: http://benchmarkfoam.com/products/benchmark-foam-dock-floats/Exposed foam was banned in the waters where I used the float boat, so I had to switch to inflatable float tubes. Porta what is the technical name for the styrofoam? Talked with a man today willing to sell me some, but when her started naming off what he has, it was all French to me.
