I went by that pond yesterday and it was posted "No Trespassing, violators prosecuted" I didn't fish it.

Review: George Bush Presidential Library Pond, College Station Rating: 2/5 Availability: Fishing welcomed, catch and release only Species: Bass, Bream, Cats Location: Off of George Bush behind the library on Texas A&M Campus
There are small numbers of bass and bream in this pond and a good amount of catfish. All fish are TINY. No size whatsoever. Put in a good 10 hours on this pond over several days throwing several different lures and only produced 2 very small bass on a zoom craw. You can catch cats all day long with just about anything edible, but you probably won't catch one over 10" long. Side note: there are pipes and ledges running through this pond, so you WILL lose some lures and rigs. Overall not worth fishing unless you're desperate.

Review: Red Cane Pond in Arlington
Rating: 0-1 Availability: Fishing Allowed Fishes: Supposedly Cats, definitely sunnies and minnows. Where: 6500 S Cooper St Arlington, Texas 76001 Description: Not a clue what the best way is. DD caught a turtle, no shock since there were TONS. I've never seen anything like it. Including a hefty snapper! Did see plenty of sunfish and minnows in select areas. But 1/2 (at least) of the pond was covered, COVERED, in dead floating algae. Backside of it there was actually black water and smelled like a swamp. But we gave that side a go to avoid the extremely territorial geese on the 'park' side. They'd made a nest I think right next to the dock and anyone getting withing 20' was chased. Son thought it was amusing, but me not so much. Pretty sure they were Embdens, not known for hostility, but nesting brings out the worst. The others that were there were I think pilgrims or similar and didn't care much. Overall not worth arguing with the multitude of turtles to try and get a fish to bite... but the kids enjoyed the playground.
Elegance lies in simplicity.

Fished bethany lakes in allen today. Was in the main pond and managed 3 20"+ channel cats in about 30 minutes. All on a orange/chart 1/16th rooster tail!! Was great fun having my drag go wild and seeing my rod bend like that with light tackle.
Not a single bass...

That orange chart rooster tail is a sand bass killer.

Name: Crystal Lake (The Blue Hole) Rating: 4/5 Availability: Fishing appears to be okay. Never been hassled. Species: LMB, spots, bluegill (that I know of) Location: Behind home depot in waxahachie Description: A very deep, insanely clear old quarry with good structure and plenty of cover. This lake is a very healthy fishery that has abundant supplies of baitfish and vegetation. I've had several lmb out of here. Most have been small but considering this heat, I haven't been able to get where the big girls are. I think as the bass move shallower, you will be able to get some toads from the bank. Because of the thick grass on the bottom, its really hard to fish jigs and the like on bottom, so you're probably going to have to go weightless or get a solid reaction bite, which has been productive

When fishing a small pond, tactics lend themselves to the finesse approach.Mini-boats come in handy when a pond's perimeter has been ringed with vegetation, which is almost always the case. Rig them Texas-style, with a hook forced back into the worm. No slip sinker. Pinch a single BB-sized split shot to the line, six inches above the bait.

I was told by a fellow that some folks will dump some of what they caught from a lake in Lakeside for the kids to catch.I did not believe that, you are not supposed to do that. Then one day I caught my personal best catfish out of there weighing around 9 lbs. No way a cat survived and grew in there to that size if not put in there by a fisherman. It made me wonder just what is in these ponds around DFW

Any good spots in Rockwall? What about the chandlers landing ponds? Are they public?
