I have a 1996 Bass Cat Pantera II.
Although everytime I end up in rough water, I swear I am going to get a bigger boat, I can't complain how it handles. Does a real nice job of plowing through small to medium chop and keeps me dry.
PM me to let me know how it was!

I'll take a 20i class on Amistad over a 18'6" champion any day of the week.Nothing beats a 522 Ranger.

Paparon, im diggin that champion, just wish it was little newer.
Mwilkins, linky no worky...
Thanks for the advise guys. Ive heard Champions are pretty good in rough water, I love the kitty cats, like the skeeters too. dont know much about pro craft other than they are usually priced right (not sure about durability) older Rangers seemed to retain their value, puttin many of the "good ones" out of my budget range.
im just starting to look. I used to have a 186 Triton and it was a good boat, no complaints but it got rough and wet in the big stuff.
now my budget is a little smaller and im wanting a bigger boat. i might settle for the right 18 footer if its nice, but really want a 20

I agree with you about these 2 but they made you feel like the boat was going to turn over if you got close to the side while fishing. Great riding in rough water though. I like my ZX202C, it handles the rough stuff really good also. JMO

Going a different way. Charger Bass Boats= best rough water ride. They are slow, but absolutely awesome ride in rough water.

I haven't ridden in enough to give brand to brand comparisons but I do believe that a 1994 Pantera II rides a little better than a 2001 Pantera Classic. The 01 is a higher performance boat, faster and far more stable in turns (related to hopping), but the older cat is a little softer in the rough stuff. Lets keep things in perspective though, the 2001 Pantera Classic does very well in rough water. Is it better than other brands, eh, I don't know. So many things can influence perception.

DA, for the years that you mention... you will be well pleased with purchasing a "well cared for" Champion for rough water. 202 or a 203. Remember, regarless of anyones opinion, all boats have pros and cons when it comes to handling rough water. Ability to slice through waves will also take away from some stability "movement from side to side" when fishing. Only in a "few" of todays most recent models will a boat have an almost perfect blend of all capabilities and features.

Don't leave out the Gambler it is fast and handles the ruff water just fine. Don't believe me ask Steve at the prop shop. Cookie cutters can't hang with it.

I will speak up for Pro-Crafts as I have spent a lot of time in a 20 ft. Super Pro with a 225 Opti...it handles big stuff really well but the wind will push it like no other since the sides are tall to help with stability.
