Crappie4me on the serious side both Palestine and Ceder Creek are both crappie lakes that give you the best of both worlds you can not only catch lots of fish but also catch big fish. There are many good lakes and you will get more opinions I'm sure.

Possibly I should have had my thread read " 3lb plus " instead of GOOD fish. I fished with Mark Robinson a few years ago, and he put me on some 17" fish, they were a little skinny, so not much weight. I've fished with Chuck 3 times, always caught a lot of fish, a few 16's, but no 3's. I figure there are probably 3's in just about every lake, but which lake would give me the best advantage. I guess that's what I'm really going for.

Dang pepop you're slippin. I thought your posse had Palestine closed.  BTW one of these days I'm calling Clay. I bet he'll sneak me in. It WAS closed till ol CV came down here and busted down the gate! Here's what SlabMeSilly jigs can do in the hands of a MASTER! A couple of friends from Houston came up to visit, and what a great way to leave good impression for the Houstonians. Tinman used to live in the metroplex for 15yrs before residing south for the last 10yrs so he has fished with me many times before. His. buddy, however is new to this fresh water slabs. Off to Palestine we went (they drove their car so they can save some driving heading home)... We didn't get a limit of 75, but plenty for them to take home...60 keepers Jigs of the day: The TrueBlue and cold water is one deadly combination. Also, The Texas Motor Cars (The TMC jig) was an attractor for some biguns... Depth: 17'-23' ... Strikes: 16'- 6" off of bottom Here is Tinman  Here Mr Salt Water Angler only  Here is the mess they'll have to clean this afternoon after they get back to Houston (The TMC also attracted 5 good eating channels)  If you ever heard rumors that hogs can swim at Palestine, it's true!   Thank you Palestine for a blessing day on the water; you have allowed me to render some wholesome N TX hospitalities!!!(2 very happy fish cleaning guests)

We be slabbin at la mancha! The morning bite has picked up now. Slows down around 11am then turns back on around noon for 1 last run of hogs. Another 2 weeks and should be able to wear em out all day.

Never been to Palestine but my good old Buddy H2O said they have monster slabs and I reckon he would know.
A few other choices on places I have caught good fish are Fork, Texoma, Cypress Springs, and Grapevine. Maybe not 3 pounders but they all have given me some healthy 2 pounders.

If you're looking strickly for bigger fish (2-3#), there are several things that you have to consider:
1. Know that two in a boat is company, and more than that is a disaster if you're seeking bigger fish
2. Make sure that you pick a guide that is a timber fisherman. That's not to say that you can't catch bigger fish off brush, but bigger crappie tend to hang out on timber
3. You must be a good jig fisherman (or jig tipped w/minnows), otherwise you will have a tough row to hoe
4. Don't set your asperations on 3#+ fish, cause they're as scarce as hens teeth. Generally, if you are able to catch one in your lifetime, you're blessed, and.....
5. Here's where I'd fish, as these lakes have a high number of bigger fish (not necessarily in order of perference)
Texoma
Fork
Cypress Springs
Palesteine

You have a year to safe up the extra travel funds yourself, so why limit yourself to Texas.... I would go east... way east!!!!

I think everyone has had great input,you need to decide what a reasonable goal is ? talk to the guides ask them whats the best time for big fish type of fishing required if your not well versed in the presentation that could be required, any guide could put you on big fish and have bad results.I don't get to fish as much as i use to but theres 4 lakes I would look at with good guides on them ,the've been mentioned and then there's the secert spot!Best of luck U might want to look at a overal big stringer several more options.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've decided Palestine will be my first location. I was thinking of Fork, I've never been there and have heard a lot about it. It will be me alone with a guide, and will be an all day trip. If I have to drive 4+ hours to fish, I will make it worth the drive. I agree that more than 2 targeting bigger fish hurts sometimes. I feel I can hold my own with a jig. That is all I will fish with, and have fished with for the last 10 yrs., do not care for minnows, will use them if that's what the fish wants, but I prefer jigs. Verticle jigging is my #1 favorite way, timber, piles, bridges, it doesn't matter. I do not care for dock shooting. Did that with Chuck, and failed pretty bad. So, should it be Fork, or Cedar? I was looking at doing this trip in mid-Feb., middle of the week, but like ya said, I will contact the guides I want to use, and work out the best times.
