Hello, I have viewed valuable information periodically on this excellent forum, but do not recall any data on which knot is better, stronger or preferred. I like how easy the snell knot is to tie- but looks to me like it will unravel easily. I picture my trophy fish in at the boat and then "pop" and its gone. I use suffix 832 with 50lb mono as leader. Is the snell knot good for any type of fishing? Mostly I catfish- anchor, drift- whatever they seem to be preferring at the time. But I also crappie and whitebass fish occassionally. Do not frequent the internet much so will check out the valuable input later. Thanks in advance; I practice CPR BNR

I use a snell knot on all of my hooks. Every other knot is wither a palomar par a cinch.

A clinch knot is fine on a straight hook but if you have an offset hook with the eye of the hook offset then in order for the hook to pull straight you need to tie a snell.

For catfishing I prefer the Palomar. Haven't had one fail yet. Just my choice.

Snell the hook. Make a surgeon's. Loop for the end of the leader. Palomar the swivel.

I can snell a hook much faster than any knot. Snell is best and it keeps your hook facing the correct direction which is very important.

I use the snell knot, I have had one break in the knot in over 3 years, I lost possibly the biggest fish I have ever had on the other end of my line, it took the bait and started pulling drag while in the rod holder, I finally got the rod out of the holder, and it was still stripping drag, then it just came loose, when I reeled it in it was broke in the snell knot, but I'm sure that it needed to have been checked, because we had been catching some gar back at that time, and I'm pretty sure it had been nicked by one of them,
I use the snell knot, I trust the snell knot, and if you don't trust the knot you use find one that you do!!!

I snell the hook and palomar the leader to the swivel. If I've already got a weight and swivel on the mainline I'll tie a figure 8 knot and slip it on.
