When my time comes, I'll be standing one the deck of my Ranger with a rod in one hand and a Largemouth Bass in the other.

DEAD is too old to fish.
Fishing alone beyond a certain level of capacity is foolish however.

You are so right on about keeping it fun. I'm 66 and have wondered the same thing...how long can I fish? I no longer tournament fish...I'm retired...can you imagine how nice these lakes are if you can fish week days? I also really believe in physical fitness. I think the part that will end your fishing is when you are unable to launch and reload by yourself. That takes the most balance and flexibility. I feel fortunate as I live where I can cut/sell mesquite firewood. I cut around 40 cords/yr. I think it's funny as I used to pay $40/mo to belong to a fitness club...now I earn money from a fitness program. I appreciate this thread.

And I have to add that last June, on a Wednesday, I caught my personal best five fish stringer that went 35 lbs.

I turn 60 this January also and I have told my wife that when I die it will be on my boat, on a lake in mid cast. My fishing partner(my brother) and I have had this discussion and we both agreed that if I can't stand and operate the trolling motor then he would operate it and put me in a sitdown seat in back.

If this happens, I think it's a good indicator that you are too old...

I would think when balance and your thought processs start to diminish it too old to boat alone.
But as long as you have someone to run the Trolling Motor / Big Motor you can go as long as you are physically able.

I think thats one of the keys-having your boat on the water so you don't have to launch and load every time you fish.

If you can't remember what lake you are on and don't know where you launched that is when I would give it up.

How old is too old to fish? I would say when you are 125.
Seriously, like RR said, when you can remember what lake you're on and where the boat ramp is, then GO FOR it!
I know a WWII hero who is almost 92 and he still plays electric guitar (country) music in a band almost every Friday night. He can play circles around pickers 30 years younger than him and he still fishes and catches 2 sand bass at a time! His mind is still like a steel trap!
When I get too old, I told my wife, I want a Viking funeral...just put me in an old wooden row boat, put a rod and reel in my hand, set the boat on fire and push it away from the shore.
