You gotta quit throwing that Alabama Rig! It's not just that it's heavy, but pulling in those keepers 2 and 3 at a time is a real killer......
Need to improve my LMB fishing, running out of time.

I think some of you guys have an elbow and wrist problem totally unrelated to fishing.

rest and healing is the number one thing. put the pole down for a few weeks
plenty of good advise here.
I have dealt with multiple issues with carpel tunnel, neuroathy in my elbows and back issues. all of which have aggravated my fishing time.
what I have found worked for me and still does, even after most of the nerve issues have been resolved.
I cast about a dozen different ways, using different movements and muscles.
spinner bait for instance: i prefer to roll cast a spinner, But i will alternate and roll cast a few times, lob it a few times, pitch it, over head, side arm all with the same lure.
another thing that has worked VERY well for me for joint and muscle fatigue is keeping my elbow and reel in close to my body and holding it low (more natural relaxed postion) my reel rests against my body just above my waist line. i still some times hold it higher near my chest, but when im "feeling it" i will let my arm drop down and relax a little. doesnt interfere with my hooksets either.

A very simple exercise that will treat this condition is a reverse grip motion. instead of a squeezing motion you want to spread your fingers apart.
bring your thumb and all your fingers together to make a "point", wrap a rubber band around them, now try to open / spread your fingers apart. this works the forearm muscle where they connect at the elbow, and will strengthen the muscles inflamed from casting.
I was taught the exercise during my competative tennis and racquetball days.

The pain isn't during the procedure, it is after it. They told my brother to make sure and move it around some or it won't heal correctly. He moved it in the truck on the way home about 20 minutes after the procedure and just about came unglued. He is usually pretty good at taking pain too. The doc did tell him his tendon was pretty bad and he got real aggressive with it. Idk if all docs do it, or if it is even necessary in all cases but they poked a bunch of holes in his tendon with a needle then injected the PRP back in. The damage they did to the tendon is what caused the pain after the procedure. They had some kind of sling or brace thing that heated up or something and they said it really helps with the pain and healing but not every insurance covers it. My brothers didn't and it wasn't cheap to buy it outright so he didn't get it. The doc really recommended it to anybody who had an insurance that would cover it. He still suggest everybody who has tennis elbow real bad to have this procedure done.

I have changed my casting motion to keep my elbow very close or touching my side as I cast. This helps dramatically. I also wear a compression sleeve and that seems to help some. Not fishing is not an option. Good luck +1. My elbow started to hurt so I adjusted my motion to keep my elbow as close to my body as possible. Pain has greatly subsided but don't know how severe your injury is. Try overhand with elbow tight to the body and avoid "sidewinder" motion.

My Elbow has been hurting all year, and now is killing me. Can't hardly lift my coffee cup out of the cupholder. How do you shake this tendonitis? Any advice? Man I thought it was just me and getting old and out of shape!!! I was diagnosed with this 8 months ago! I have used every brace out there, rested and have had 2 cortizone shots. The first helped for about 4 months, the second lasted 3 weeks! I am now in physical therapy 3 days week, tomorrow is my 3rd session and I REALLY hope this works for me. Its funny, but its not...The coffee cup in the cup holder thing, is EXACTLY when I knew I had a problem. Hang in there!

I've noticed that the roll cast seems to aggravate my elbow more than a classic Pitch motion. I Pitch with spinning gear from time to time because the motion is different, less aggravating,to my elbow. I use the lightest, best balanced equipment, which also puts less stress on my elbow. The easiest combo on my elbow is a GLX 783c with a Steez reel. Rest and ice helps, greatly. Hope this info may help others that share this problem.

I'm fairly young(still in 20s) compared to most on this board. Back in April my elbow started giving me problems. If was only on hook sets or on bicep days at the gym. After a hook set, I would have the worst pain in my elbow. It got worse throughout the season causing me not to get a good hook set and started losing more fish. I've fished 3 days since the first of September and have been taking it easy on the elbow at the gym. It hasn't hurt in about a month. I'll see if it's still messed up after this weekends 2-day tournament.

Rest is the best. You might consider taking off this winter, completely. TELB is less likely to become chronic,if you completely recover the first time you have symptoms. Most of us have it chronically. I've had it for 15 years, and you don't want that. Good luck with it.

I'm 64, and I have pain in my right arm and forearm at times, especially from throwing buzzbaits and crankbaits. When I do, I take Advil and use a wrap-around brace on the forearm and another near the elbow. I also use spinning gear a lot because the "swing" method of pitching a worm, finese jig, crankbait,or creature bait works real well and gives the elbow some relief (I use 12lb. copolymer). A few days rest is the best thing.
In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

Was at the Tulsa Farm show this week for work and happened across a lady from Marble Falls TX who was demo-ing a electrical frequency / sound wave pain treatment device. Told her I had fishermans elbow. She strapped it on my elbow 3 different times for about a half hour each time over 2 days. Feels much better today. Was very skeptical about this , but just maybe it helped. Will rest it for another week and see. Her website is www.finallypainfreeTX.comReal nice lady and interesting to talk to. Jury is still out. We will see. Did not cost anything to try it at the show and did not hurt a bit.

Make yourself learn how to cast with your other hand.

I used to have serious tennis elbow, but I learned by accident that exercise cures it. I did all the resting, wraps, ice, stretching, etc my doctor recommended and it only helped short term. I then started an aerobic exercise routine that required a lot of arm movement and to my surprise my pain subsided and has never come back in 10 years. I still do some of this aerobic exercise from time to time and I also do a light weightlifting routine to keep it strong. I think some of the key was the arm movement didn't require gripping which is what I think is the key aggravating element to fishing (not the casting). You just happen to feel it most when casting.

I'll have no trouble resting my arm, this winter. Slipped on a launching ramp and twisted my knee. Don't think I can, confidently, stand and Pitch on my front deck for 2-3 months. "If it ain't one thang; It's another." Lol.
