Depth depends on the lake. All lakes fish differently

What do you usually fish with when fishing brush piles? I have used jigs but get hung up to much.

Right now I would put them on the bank. Its less work. Ray Hubbard would be great for doing this.

Mr. Mitchell, may I ask why you wouldn't use Cedar trees? Seems like when I get in an area with hardwoods and it has a few cedar trees around it...drop a jig in the middle of that cedar and hang on. I've put out a lot of christmas trees (not cedar obviously, but related), and have done fairly well on them. Maybe I've been missing out on a better way to make a brush pile. thanks for your info marc.

If you sink your brush close to deep water in 8 to 15ft. of water it might hold fish all year. Like was said earlier depends on the lake. Try to make them stand up so the fish can suspend shallow if they want. That might keep'em there longer.

i have fished our pond after a storm when it knocks the willow limbs into the water and their in them an hour later and just in this case they seem to be best while they are still green

put out a few in my days and alot depends on the pile it self. If you have a hard wood tree it will actually hold them quicker if put in an advantageous area for bass. Cedar will hold pan fish, perch, crappie, etc.quicker but will not last as long. Good luck

I think the reason cedar doesn't work well for a while after sinking is that it has a very strong resin and I believe fish don't like it until its almost rotten.
