I have a 80# Minn Kota Foretrax with a 62" shaft on my Lund. It'll hold my boat in any water I dare try to fish.

Thanks guys. I was thinking at least 70lb. with a longer shaft. I have two 12v batteries so I'll take a shot in the dark that I'm limited to a 24v system. Now I'll need to find room for another battery... When you say 2 batteries do you mean 1 for cranking and 1 for the TM? Your boat should have room for 1 cranking and at least 2 TM batteries.

I would recommend the 80# Minn Kota Foretrax for your boat. I have the 101# Foretrax and love it.

dittos on the 80# Fortrex. It is 24 volt. The motor ramps up its speed so no throwing your friends out of the boat. I also has a piston which allows EASY stowing and deploying. Also comes in 45" shaft.

80 with the best batteries you can afford. if 80 wont hold you, then you will have waves coming over the bow. time to move out of the wind. the extra power makes quick work of sampling spots near by, or going from bridge piling to bridge piling, you can fish alot of areas real quick, and get on the fish alot faster. also when, (not if), your main motor fails you, you wont be standing on your bow holding up a rope as other boats pass by and act like they dont see you, you will be making your way back the dock if you have some good group 29 batteries that are maintained.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

My 17 1/2' Stratos came with a 12v 40# and I was totally unaware of how inadequate it was until I put a 24v 70# Maxxum on the bow. The 1st real test was the CAT Tournament on Palestine in July when I was on it pretty hard for 8 hrs & at the end of the day, 100% could still jerk me in my seat. As was said, get the biggest you can afford and at least 24v. My peopo don't have a 70 he has a 74 which is one of the quitest 24 volt trolling motors ever built by minn kota. get it right old man.
