I have been asked to work up a presentation on GPS and mapping and how it relates/helps in locating and catching fish. I would like to hear what questions folks may have on GPS and/or contour mapping that they would like to have covered in an educational presentation. This will cover from basic map reading to areas to look for different times of year, etc.

Any thoughts/questions/comments would be appreciated.

You can start by giving out your best falcon, amistad, and ivie waypoints. Everyone will love it.

Which is more accurate Lowrance LGC3000 puck or the internal HDS antenna? And how many feet exactly does each bring you to your original marked waypoint.

How to navigate back to a waypoint you just marked. Considering the location of the puck, unit and transducer at the time of the mark. I tsounds easier than it is.

Using the grid feature for trolling.

Discuss different software available to transfer data between Lowrance and Humminbird.

Discuss waypoint management as far as folders, lakes, time of year etc.

Differences between tracks and routes and how to save and organize them by lake.

when you find something new on the SI, what is the best way to mark it?
How many waypoints do you use and is there a spot on a spot that you somehow mark?
Do you circle the spot a couple of times to try to figure out how they are relating to it?
Do you mark and fish or give it some time?

I would love to know what pool for that body of water was at when the depth contours were taken.

How do do you figure the relationship between your waypoint and transducer location?

ditto on how to mark an SI waypoint then go back to it. Seems like i mark something good on console SI, then get on trolling motor and spend a lot of time going back to it. Even with the networking HB system. seems like it doesn't automatically update each unit.

If you're looking for ideas about using the GPS to find specific areas, I'd like to hear what you look for in an area from someone that catches consistent big girls. you always read about "Creeks with flats close" in the spring, "creeks that feed a flat with a ditch" etc, but how do you see that when looking at a GPS map with contour lines.

How to export the data from your unit to your PC\Mac. What is an SD card and how much data will it hold. What software is available to view this data and then how to run the program on your pc\mac to view your data.
