Whatever anyone else believes there are still a few very large carp in Town, what have gone missing are all the high 20's to mid 30's. There were less than five carp in Town that were genuine 40's , they have just been fished for so much they have become a lot wiser and moved to locations not fished by anyone or unfishable areas. Where are the mid 20's mirrors caught by Richard Sommerville and I at the first ATC and all of the spawn filled high 30's and scraper 40's? Those fish had not spawned for a couple of years and were near the end of the lifespan. It will be a while before the current fish get to that level - add in the fish losses due to floods in 2006/7 and last year and the whole population has decreased. There is still plenty of natural food in the lake so time to grow is what is needed by the fish that are still here.

These fish have seen carp anglers for 11 years now, most using the same baits, styles of fishing and locations. Only lakes with very high numbers of carp can stand that sort of pressure and still delivery good results.

Good point. Fish are not dumb and can be conditioned just like any other animal. Fishing pressure results in less fish being caught, BUT fish are still being caught. I can't wait until I get my first 30! I caught a nice mid 20 (25.75) just last Friday.

Good luck to those fishing this event!
