Bass can easily hear any speaker physically touching the boat, but they cannot hear any sounds from a box speaker only making air movement.
How would a human know such a thing? Hooking your ipod directly up to the rca connections of an amplifier could possibly blow the speakers. This is...well this is just wrong. ![hammer hammer](/forums/images/graemlins/default/hammer.gif)

Bass must enjoy Stoney Larue and Jamey Johnson as well as a little Mark Levin because my radio is on just about every time I'm out. Not loud but something for me to pay attention to so my ADD doesn't fire up.

Hey Cory, I had an HDS5 and added the Lowrance Sonichub set up to my boat. It was AWESOME! It bumped like I had a pair of 10's in it. You can hook your Ipod, MP3, or whatever up to it. It includes everything and is easy to hook up. I put a 8gb USB drive in it and left it alone. It comes with a pair of waterproof 6" speakers and can be upgraded to 4 if you want. The best part is I could control it through either one of my HDS units (bow or dash). I say all this in past tense because I sold the boat a couple of months ago and bought a 2011 Z9. That part is one of the things I miss about my old boat. I got mine from Shawn over at thetacklesmith.com Great guy... I can send you pics of the install if you want. Just pm me your email. Just my 2cents.

I don't have any pics of install. This is the system alpine head unit bought in 94 ( has cassette), Alpine 12 disc changer (also bought in 94, punch 400.4, bought around 97-98. kicker, not sure but I think K6000b bought this yr. The Craig 6x9s needed to be replaced after 17 yrs. The only thing purchased as (marine) is the kickers. Everything is mounted under the dual consols. OH yeah 1 insignia outdoor speaker mounted in each rod box. No speaker holes drilled. You can PM me for more info.

Corey, Its Wes from Falcon. I have an 07 Basscat P2, pretty much the same as my buddies classic with a little different deck layout. Anywho, I did the same thing you are wanting to do and went with all Alpine Digital. Shoot me a pm with your phone no. and I'll shoot you some pics. I went with 4-alpine 6.5"s and their 300w digital amp, she screams! I really only listen to it on the first run in the morning when I air it out and let her eat!!!! I spent some cash but it was worth it. I mounted the radio in a carpeted box that basscat sells, but Im fixing to move it to the dash to replace the missing 797. The amp is mounted in the drivers side rod locker. I let Rockwall marine do the cutting on the boat for the speaker holes, but mounted and wired everything myself. If you plan on running an amp, make an attempt to run the power wire on opposite sides of the boat that your graph/transducer cables are ran on due to interference. Its not horrible but it is annoying. As far as it draining the battery in the summer we'll anchor up at Grapevine and jam for 3-4 hrs and hit the key and shes all good. Just got to use some common sense. With the powerpole and all the other gadgets it could easily run down the battery. Also my stereo is hooked to my cranking battery.

How would a human know such a thing? o A little internet biology research will confirm that bass with their lateral lines hear and sense much of the same audifrequency spectrum that we humans share. It you swim around my boat underwater, you can easily hear the boat mounted rigid speakers when they are on, but not the box floating in airspace speakers. Above the water , both set of speakers sound though about the same to someone in the boat.

There is no need to cut speaker holes if you build fiberglass pods....ur sound will thank you for it.....6.5's will do the trick 6x9's are overkill. But if it's 6x9's u want installed we can build u some fiberglass pods wrapped in the same color as your seats or painted. Will cost u but in the end well worth it.

Yea I work in a fiberglass shop here at marine clean! I could build the pods but I dont wanna take up any space! If I cut holes in my boat and decide to sell the boat, then I could easily fiberglass the wholes back up and shoot white gel coat again!! Im just waiting to see what I actually wanna do!
