Thanks

When you get your license, assuming you got a Fresh and Saltwater combo it comes with one tag. The tage is used for Red Drum over 28" if you want to retain them. Once that tage is used you can get a "bonus" tag as well.
Now if you have children with you they can get a Tag only for $3. I did the Galveston Party Boats with my boys 2 weeks ago and we got all of it right there at the office.

I purchased a fresh water back what a month ago only. I went back to Wally and asked for red drum tag. Lady started looking in the Texas P&W book for code and finally called the man that is usually behind the counter. I heard her ask him, about my request. Afterwards I was told all I need is a saltwater tag ? So now I have two licenses,
1) It states "Endorsements Saltwater " 2) my initial one under Endorsement says "Freshwater"
She did not know what she was doing and I wonder if I have the right tag? it does not specify "Red Drum"

There should be one little tag that is "valid for one red drum" If you look at the side of the license with your name etc it is on the top of over to the left above the name of the store you bought it from. It came as part of the printed license it is not seperate.
Hope this helps.

The salt water licience should have a tag that states "Vailid for 1 Red Drum Over 28 inches."

If you don't understand the rules, never go to WM. Go to a tackle shop.

Buck, you wont be able to get just a Redfish tag, you have to have the salt water license and it comes with 1 redfish tag on it for tagging a fish over 28". you can keep up to 3 a day between 20 and 28 inches and one of those 3 can be over 28"s (you can only keep 1 over 28" per tag though). if you use the one redfish tag on a large fish you can go back and get another redfish tag from where you got your license. so... the saltwater license allows you to keep up to 3 redfish a day between 20" and 28" and "1" redfish over 28"s per tag.

Bill,
Appreciate your response. When trying to get this tag I had a 2nd license printed out and it only says "saltwater fish stamp" and nothing else. When you say it comes with 1 redfish tag than I don't need to go back to Wally World right? Geessh sorry don't mean to be a pain in the butt.

you should be good to go, since you already had a freshwater license all they had to do was add saltwater to it... keep both licenses/Stamp with you when fishing...

I think also you are good to go, but just to be on the safe side, might drop by a TPWD office or see if you can locate a Game Warden. (Much better to confer w/ game warden now than later, if things are not in order!) Even a bona-fide tackle shop could clear the muddle away.

Here is what TPWD says:
Red drum special regulation: During a license year, one red drum over the stated maximum length limit may be retained when affixed with a properly completed Red Drum Tag and one red drum over the stated maximum length limit may be retained when affixed with a properly completed Bonus Red Drum Tag. Any fish retained under authority of a Red Drum Tag or a Bonus Red Drum Tag may be retained in addition to the daily bag and possession limit as stated in this section.
I always buy the Year from Purchase all water license and have never seen the type that Buck purchased.

fresh water license for fresh water fish
salt water license for salt water fish including one (1) oversized redfish tag
if you buy separately, you will have two printed licenses; one for fresh water, one for salt water.
if you were to buy as a combo, you would've had just one printed license valid for both salt and fresh water, including your one (1) oversized redfish tag.
when you purchase a texas hunting and fishing super combo license, it'll have all the deer tags, turkey tags, and one (1) oversized redfish tag.
anyway you do it, when you fish saltwater, you need a saltwater license which comes with one (1) oversized redfish tag. so if they sold you a saltwater license, it came with one (1) oversized redfish tag.
does that clear it up some?

So if you use the first oversized red drum tag to keep one oversized red drum, you then go purchase an additional oversized red drum tag, but only one additional tag can be purchased per license year? Is that correct?
