We went to upper peninula of michigan last week. My bro. is a seasoned kayaker frequents Lake Superior in all kinds of weather, calm, winds, rain, snow, ice, even high seas. Every year he visits Isle Royal By himself or maybe with a fellow yaker. ( this year in augest 20 days)He has a friend heard we were visiting and brought an excellen homemade 16 foot canoe for us to use as much as we wanted. We paddled the Sturgeon Sloughs of chassell bay houghton county for 2 days and one night, camped way in the boonies, ect. what a blast, portage lake and surrounding lil lakes offer some excellent yak canoe fishing, and camping trips. Copper harbor also has excellent yaking oppertunities. http://www.keweenawadventure.com/canoe_rentals.htm

I have a few times. Superior is very cool to paddle but can get nasty in a hurry. Use caution if you come up this way to do it.

Hay Fly- wow glad to see some one from so far north on this site! When your shoveling your way in and shoveling your way out and its 20 below0 this winter wishing you could go fishin without drillin a hole through 4' of ice come to texas i will take fishin here. I worked on Isle Royal national Park for 3 years. Knows about how quick Lake superior gets nastey. We had a blast way out in them boonies. You know if we fished a 50 to 100 mile radius around Lake Gogebic including Wis. land O lakes area we could fish a diverent lake every day for more than a year. wouldnt that be neat eh!

You sir are on! I hate hate hate winter up here.... Don't be surprised to hear from me come January when cabin fever sets in. I run my own business, I'm not gonna get fired for taking a few days off.

And yes! It is pretty cool to be able to fish a different lake every day for a year without traveling too far... That said, do you realize that it would take a little over 31 YEARS to fish every lake in this state if you fished one a day. The MN is right next door with nearly as many. Now thats impressive!

I love lake superior!!! I was born in marquette, and raised in calumet. My father and I have been 17 times to isle royale. We saw more moose inland. Only twice gone north around the island, the rest inland and the south edges. half of my ashes will lay on cemetery island, the other half in the gulf.
Apostle islands is very cool too. Its a very diffrent enviroment...bear are as common as mosquitos. Boy do I miss pastys!!! And da yoopers!!!

Yes similar.they have Lake trout COHO salmon, Chinook salmon, german browns, rainbow trout speckled trout Hybrid trout ect.
Here is a cool link of a guide I wanted to get on board with http://fishingstannardrock.com/
but optied to rent a pontoon boat and take the family on portage canal /lake there zip is 49916 chassell mi. really cool tourist trap.
the trout trip was 100 miles away, still wanna do that trip one day. nearly 50 miles out in Lake Superior. water depth goes from over 600 feet deep to above water line quickly. Beuitifull lighthouse there too. really great fishin hole. requires bigger than a yak unless your somewhat nuts for yaking like my Bro. LOL
