I believe it, a big fish on a reel that hasn't been maintained will break, regardless of make. but even so, the abus can take more abuse than most reels.

Good thing I'm right handed and use spinning reels cuz most of the responses to this post SUCK.......we already knew Abus are good and that they have several models in left hand....NO CHIT......DUH?

People (myself included) have a hard time recommending a product to somebody that is inferior to a product we have experience with. The honest answer to your question is to the best of my knowledge, there aren't any decent, affordable, baitcaster in a lefty besides an abu.

If the man said he was looking for a left handed reel that wasn't an Abu, then why keep shoving Abu down his throat? I mean come on. Personally I fish with Abu, Ming, and ProAngler. I love my Abus but my Mings are $30 and made just as well if not better than any of my 6500's. Believe it, don't, It matters not, to me. But he CLEARLY asked for a reel that wasn't Abu, so I didn't say anything about Abu.

it's not for me......it's for my lil left handed Jewish midget buddy. With his stumpy arms and fat hands he just can't do a spinning reel so we need a baitcaster. Abu's are out cuz he was married to a Mexican soap opera star : Esmerelda Garcia. Well Esmerelda ran off with a Swedish stunt man from her show so my buddy HATES  the name Garcia and anything Swedish. And ProAngler rods are out too cuz they are just too long for him. We gotta find a short stout lil ole trolling rod for him.

I like my Shimano baitcasters best. Great drag, cast almost twice as far as the Abus, loud clicker, lefty- sold. http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/...ng/Cardiff.htmlAll you right-handed retrievers got it backwards.  I now prefer spinning after a couple years of catfishing. I hate that the drag doesn't sing on a baitcaster when a big one gets to pulling. You can fake it with the clicker, but it ain't the same. Plus you can reel your lines in quicker when changing spots with spinning.

I don't know if I would call the cardiffs affordable. They aren't outrageous, but a little high.
