I know you saide other than, but I have some of the abu tgc 6001 I got from ffo-tackle.com. It doesn't look like they have any right now, but I think they where $43 plus about $7 for shipping. They sell out from time to time but seem to always get more in. Pretty good catfishing reels. Have the clickers on em too.

most reel company's offer left handed reels you just have to ask the sales person or counter person at cabelas or basspro if they offer it in a left handed model cabelas had their depth master series on sale a few weeks ago for 20 a peice and you may check and see if that is still valid those reels are good reels

Why not abu? They make one of the best, affordable reels on the market. Find a used one, a 5501 can be found used for like 35 bucks a 6501 for around 60. I wouldn't bother with another brand. Stick with quality, and you will be happy.

Buy used and let Jim clean it. Catfishhunter1963 just fixed of 5 reels I got used, and they work better than new probably.

All I'm trying to say is, why risk money on a reel that MIGHT be good, when for the same price, you can get a reel you KNOW is good.

abu's are not unbreakable reels like yall make them sound i would put most 20-50 dollar reels new against almost any abu and still serve the same purpose and have similar quality especially since most are all made in china now anyway

Umm... Really? C3 and c4 abus are still made in Sweden. Most 25 dollar reels are going to have mostly plastic construction, most of the ambassadeur parts are metal, and if cared for correctly, they are pretty unbreakable, I know several people who have 30 year old abu Garcia's, that still work great, its just a matter of maintenance. Very very few $25 reels will last 30 years.

Put a 6500 abu versus a new cattmax or something similar now, and the result might be pretty similar, do it in 5 years, and see the difference.

I'm not trying to start an argument, but come on...

like you stated its all about maintenance and well you can maintain a cheap reel as well and still last just as long and yeah the old abu's are still around because thats when people still took pride in what they made

i've seen numerous abu's non-bcx models get torn apart from normal fishing in a matter of months
