I got a curado 200 e7 and I just noticed it started making a noise when casting. Its hard to explain the noise but it seems to only happen when making longer cast. About a month ago I cleaned all my reels and oiled the bearings with 1 drop of oil that came with the new reel. Im thinking it has something to do with the bearings im sure. What is a good way to clean out the bearings and re oil them?

Soak in lighter fluid then a drop of oil.It could be something else making the noise though.

Air hose.
I had one that was making a high pitched noise one time. It turned out to be the anti reverse bearing was bad.

The AR bearing will only be on the retrieve though, huh Rat?

You are right on this one for sure because what he is hearing is a dry or dirty bearing. That oil that the reel is packed in is nothing but mineral oil and he really should put a better oil on the bearings. A good Soaking and blowing out with the air hose should do the job though but in that reel the mineral oil is going to take more than a drop to keep it working. Shimano puts a tad of grease in those bearings at the factory so I imaging they are dirty. If he does not have a compressor he can use canned air like the computer guys do or just soak and swish them around in lighter flued goo and let air dry overnight.

Hmm I dont have lighterfluid would charcoal lighter fluid work the same? AKA boyscout water. What is a good oil I can use? Ive heard that rocket fuel is good. Do they sale that at academy or like gander mountain? Where could I get some good reel oil. Wish I knew about this before I just cleaned and oiled about 12 reels haha.

Check the brass ring in the left sideplate to see if there is any scaring or brass dust. If you find you do you have a common thing with curados. Check the pins that the brake blocks are on for a loose pin. If you have one and can borrow a drop or 2 of 948 Locktite pull the pin put a drop on the hole and put the pin back in you can use red Loctite if you can't get 948 but 948 costs about $32 for 2oz. Also check the brass ring in the spool.

You can also use denatured or rubbing alcohol. There are a few different oils like quantum hot sauce or ardent reel butter you can get at academy.

I put new spool bearings in checked the break pins and they are all tight and it is still making a buzzing noise when casting it. I even tried putting new 15 pound line on.

Have you dropped your spool or had the reel "Supertuned" or tried to do it yourself. That noise can only be noise inside the bearing, inside the drum, inside the pinion gear or inside the cap.

Check and make sure your brake ring is not loose inside of the drum housing on the palm side of your reel. That happens quite a bit and it will cause the thing to buzz and even squeel until it comes out of the housing. It is only pressed in and can be replaced with a little epoxy.

No I havnt dropped it im real careful with my reels. I tried adding new breaks and that didnt help either. Ill check the ring, to see if its loose. How do you know if the pinion gear is bad or not? When I cleaned it I took a q tip and pulled off most the cotton and pushed it in the gear.

The reason I said the pinion gear is so many folks take the "Super Tuning" (Where you sand the inside of the pinion gear) to extreme. Sand paper has no place near a fresh water reel. Anyway they roughen up the inside of the pinion gear to where it makes noise. My bet is still the brake ring being loose. Other than that it will have to be a loose brake case itself on the spool (Take it out and check and make sure the component that holds the pins is secure to the spool and even with the outside edges of the spool) Also check to make sure the insert is in the level wind guide. Other than that you will have to send it in to one of us for a CAt Scan and an MRI. No prescriptions over the phone. LOL!

One more thing. Did you put the shim back behind the bearing? Is the bearing retainer clip seated properly and not hitting the spool or shaft?

Yes there is like a cloth like shim behind both bearings, and retainer clip is is seated right. I cleaned the old bearings with brake cleaner, I didnt have lighter fluid becuase I dont smoke. I checked the brass ring and it seems tight and all the pins that the breaks go on are good. I think something is wrong with the side plate. Too much plastic parts and it just seems too loose when I lock it back with it open. Thanks for all your help. There is a local tackle shop here by conroe I might take it to tomorrow. They are the ones that sold me the ceramic bearings, He didnt tell me what brand of bearings when I asked him he just said they are from japan smirk
