Ken, i have worked on a lot of Curado's and my friends actually bring me theirs to fix. a easy test is to take your bearings out and put them on the end of a pencil and spin it with your finger and listen and watch it. you shouldn't hear anything as it spins and it should spin very free...make sure you are cleaning bearing BNT3927 as well as the two bearings BNT0194. that bearing is a little buried and is easily missed.

Naw, thar was a piece of the AR bearing down by the spool. LOL i am pretty sure BNT3910 (roller CLUTCH bearing) is the anti reverse and BNT2404 (anti-reverse pawl) is the backup to the anti-reverse bearing in these reels from everything i have seen. per the schematic BNT3927 is just a roller bearing, i know that it doesn't ride on the spool spindle like the two BNT0194 bearings do but i have had great success cleaning that bearing to help quiet down a reel.

I took it to Eddie at Dads Ole Tackle and he chenged both the 194 bearings and the 3927 and it still made that weird buzzing noise, he worked on it for awhile and said I should take it back to academy that it might be defective. So I did. Eddie was real nice guy and didnt charge me nothing for working on it, I got tired of overhauling the thing.

If you get a Shimano, that has some malfunction, don't change anything out on it,or let someone "fix" it for you. Write a nice 1 page note to Shimano, explaining the malfunction, box the reel up,insure it,and send it to Shimano in California. I did that, with a Chronarch, and Voila! Shimano writes me a nice note, and sends me a brand new Chronarch. I've had about 12 of them and all I ever did was clean and oil them with the oil in the box. .02. Glad Academy took care of you.

This thread contains excellent information. Thank you all for sharing your input. I was struggling to stop a casting squeal in my Curado 200 "green machine" which has been one of my favorite reels for almost 20 years. The problem was a loose pin in the centrifugal braking assembly which must have worked loose as I adjusted the brake caps on/off over the years. After many cleanings, greasing, oiling, replacing bearings, etc the squeal continued. Unfortunately, I never thought to check for loose pins until I read this thread. Thanks again.
