Beside Orange and yellow rods on my boat this is by far the most annoying thing I encounter on the water. It truly upsets me. There is a huge difference between a Perch and a Bluegill. I don’t even think any Perch live in Texas waters. So what is it with Texas fisherman and using the word Perch to describe a bluegill? I’ve included illustration's below to show the difference between fish. If this posts stops one person going forward from mis-identifying the species of fish it has served great purpose. Bluegill / Sunfish Perch Uploaded with ImageShack.us[color:#660000][/color] I was born in Minnesota and moved to TX when i was 13. Pop = soda, soda water, or coke you guys = yall perch = anything other than a bass, crappie or catfish.... I had a lot of things i had to get used to...Ive tried to educate my TX buddies, but its been a argument not worth having everytime

Really. Ya'll didn't call Redears Chinqaupins, Sinkey? That's what they called em in N. Lousiana near the Arkansas border. There's no reason to bring the great state of North Louisiana into this! besides we just call everything "supper" and make it simple. What amazes me is the amount of "fishermen" that don't even know how to clean a fish much less call it by the proper terms! LOL

i've lived in indiana, oregon, and texas. funny thing is, everyone i've met called a perch a completely different fish... none of which were actually a perch or even in the perch (percidae) family. you just smile and pretend like you know what they are talking about.

In general, it's polite to adapt to the environment you've entered.
If I'm in someones home and they want to call it a vaz, instead of a vase as I grew up calling it, I acclimate.
I find you make more friends with this approach. Well that's what separates me from the rest out here. I refuse to adapt aka sell out. Ask anyone at Fork. I used to show up with the Mercedes Benz truck towing a legend boat, listening to the most hardcore NY hood music rolling up to the ramp and still cash checks at Tournaments. And the females... sheettt. Lets not even get into that, they are intrigued by the different guy. After all isn't that how I ended up on the TFF celeb list... haha Why don't you express this attitude the next time you break down on Texas waters and need a pull? Then, get back to us. When you can.

Too all the haters on this post. Consider yourselves not invited to the Annual Jersey TFF BBQ this year. The remorse is just more than I can take, that I cant attend a Yankee BBQ. What the hell does a Yankee know about BBQ. Just cause you moved to texas dont mean you can BBQ.
