Clear Springs has good fried fish... now i may get whipped for saying this, but any time i'm in Bass Pro i stop by the restaurant and order their fried catfish. it's perfectly battered with a thin coating of cornmeal and fried perfectly. i love it from there, it's just a little $$$

Packsaddle BBQ in San Angelo has some very good fried catfish along with fresh cut and cooked french fries with jalepeno hush puppies.

Try the 410 Diner catfish sometime. It's a little unusual--one large filet. One of the waitresses told me it is delivered fresh daily. It's a good cut above Sea Island. Really hits the spot with fried zucchini, an off-menu item.

Took a closer look at the 410 Diner catfish last night. I was mistaken about it being a single filet. It is actually a single fish dressed butterfly fashion with every speck of dark and fatty meat removed. Never seen that anywhere else. Counted 20 items on the vegetable blackboard, and the cornbread was great.

Hard to say if it is the best, but the best i've had in a while is at Stevens Street Grill in Bridgeport.
