Haven't been a great distance with the boat yet but will pull as fast as you want to go. Friends of mine say they are getting 15-17 pulling their boats with it.

I'm right there with you.. 8-10 if i do the speed limit, but i do have a lift and 33s

my truck is stock aside from i have AT tires. of course, any truck you lift and up the tires on is gonna hurt you... especially towing.

I really wish I knew how much it was actually hurting my mileage though. The sticker only said 17mpg with my truck to begin with. I have had as high as 15.9 on a trip to Dallas. What do you get to a full tank of gas Miles wise?

its all extremely easy bolt on work usually just simple hand tools. if you can read directions you should be ok. also most custom shops will install pretty cheap to. looking about $800 TO $ 900 in parts though

I normally fill up at 1/8th tank and run millage every fill up. So I don't know what the mpg is for running on only full tank. If its highway, no towing, I get 17.5-19 on avg. 17.5 in the winter in Oregon because they put some [censored] additive in their fuel as a winter mix. I've had up to 19.5, but this was rare. 18.5 is pretty common for highway. If I'm doing a lot of in town driving, right around 15.
Overall towing, 14-16.5 depending on the road going 65.
I hit 18-19 several times towing going through some hilly terrain (as long as it was highway). Its amazing how much better your mpg can get if you feather the throttle going uphill. The boat weight can really work to your advantage with this.

I have also not been in Texas long enough to run milage yet. Additives can really kill some performance, so not sure if there is any here. I'll fill up tomorrow and see how the numbers look after going to fork and back.

2011 4WD 5.7 crew cab Tundra pulling an 18.5 ft. Stratos and I get about 12-13 mpg if I drive like I have some sense. I get about 16-17 mpg unloaded.

The Tundra has tons of room and pulls my boat great. I was hoping for better mpg but don't regret buying the truck.

Towed with dads to Amistad once about 600 miles round trip, 13mpg average. 5.7L. I would have bought one but Toyota wanted 7k more to trade so I bought a 5.7L dodge, yes a dodge I know, and it's been the best truck I've ever owned. 2 fords 3 Chevys. Tows as good as the tundra. 19-20mpg hwy, 12-14mpg towing.

How many of you guys getting 13-14 MPG towing do your MPG figures by hand and not using the truck display?
I know a lot of guys trust that display too much, and that is why the MPG is varying so much. Realistically I think you can expect about 10 MPG towing a 20+ boat with the Tundra 5.7.

It averages 19 on the hwy, and around 16 pulling my boat.

Is the Ecoboost just a v6 engine? Trying to understand the Ecoboost part.

It's a gasoline turbo V6 Chad. It has 420 lb ft of torque. Pretty impressive.

I had a new 2008 Sequoia with the 5.7 last year. I liked the way it drove and pulled the boat. It was more than adequate for towing a 21' bass rig on a tandem trailer. It got about 11-12 mpg towing. More importantly it averaged 13.8 mpg over the 80K miles I put on it in two years. That is in town, highway, and some towing average over 80K miles.

My 2010 Chevy Sub gets about the same pulling a boat as the Sequoia but it is not nearly as strong. The 5.3 Chevy has 350 lb ft of torque compared to the Toy's 400 lb ft. Both have a Six speed auto tranny. Drag race the Toy will run off and hide from the Chevy, no contest. No bash here just fact.

The good thing about the Suburban is that over 56K miles I have on it now it has averaged 16.1 mpg. That is real world everyday driving same as the miles I put on the Toy.

Here's the math...

40,000 miles a year at 16.1 mpg = 2,484 gallons
40,000 miles a year at 13.8 mpg = 2,898 gallons
Difference of 414 gallons @ $4.00 a gal = $1,656 more dollars a year used or $138.00 per month more fuel burned.

Now the question is, Is it worth it?

Good info. I was looking at this Ford yesterday. I'm not to thrilled about buying a first year model production vehicle so I will wait. My 4Runner is almost paid for so I think I'm just going to stick it out and see what it feels like to not have a car payment!!

Besides, never thought I would own a Ford being a vette guy up to this point! Tough pill to swallow! grin

a hemi and that flat out pulls. I hate pulling with my wife's tahoe and 5.3
I had a 2002 Ram 1500 regular cab with the V6 and that thing could barely pull itself around. With 70k miles, the whole truck was falling apart and it was by far the worst vehicle I've ever owned. I had a 2000 Silverado with the 4.3L V6 that got about 19 on the highway and 15 towing that 17' Triton, and that Dodge with the 3.7L V6 got 14 highway and 10 towing and it was running at 3k RPM just going constant 65 mph on the highway with less than 2k. Just a ridiculous excuse for a truck. The hemi might be good, but I'll never own another Dodge again. Sometimes you just can't erase that memory, you know?

Trust me, I'm not a Dodge guy at all. I've owned 3 Chevy's and currently an 08 Chevy Tahoe (my wifes), but this Dodge and Hemi combo is a freaking pulling machine. Seriously, I haven't had any problems and this truck moves. I know the other Dodge motors are horrible, but the Hemi is a whole new beast. I get 12- 12.7mpg pulling my ZX225 at 70. Usually I'm towing at 75-80 and which I normally see around 10mpg. I've a 3rd vehicle to drive as my daily driver and leave my Dodge hooked up to the boat. I probably wont sale it until I found another gasoline engine that runs like this one. I do regret getting rid of my '04 Chevy Duramax 3/4 4x4 for getting into this Dodge.

I guess everyone should get a 19ft Norris Craft then if there is that much difference. I think my re-sale value just went up wink
Do my numbers by hand every time. Guage is sometimes consistent, but I don't think it adapts to each tank of gas too well. I tried using it just to compare to the by hand numbers and reset it every time. Sometimes it was over and sometimes it was under. Either way, never have I seen it show under 14 on any trip. My by hand numbers are very consistent. I can get pretty close to guessing what I'm going to get based on the road now. But I still run the numbers anyway just for fun. I will say, leave your mpg on instantaneous and your lead foot goes away real fast! Seeing 5mpg or less going up a steep hill is frightening.

As for the Dodges, had one when I was younger... terrible milage (gas was less expensive then) but made it to 265k before I sold it, for 500 more than I bought it for. ok, i got it for 2k to start. tranny was leaking fluid like crazy at the end, and that was its 2nd. engine was original and ran great. burnt oil at the end (265k, ill accept that) but used lucas oil additive and it sealed it right up. however, ran into a LOT of tranny problems before 100k using work vehicles and they get slammed on consumer reports pretty bad for it too. However, I love the look of the rams and am glad to hear them starting to get better mpg (they were definately lacking for awhile). They get the tranny ratings up and i'll definitely look into them in the future.

Put a transmission in the dodge I just traded at 80k. Dodge has had transmission problems for several years. The hemi pulled great but that was about the only thing I liked on it. It got about 12-13 pulling my boat. I have taken a couple trips with guys that had the toyotas and everytime I was splitting on gas and it was 10mpg. We all like whatever vehicle we have so it's normal to see the guys that have toyotas saying they get 14 or 15 pulling but that may also be like taking a pic of an 8 lb bass and callin it 10. Lol

They must be driving about 55 mph.

I have pulled a 3500# horse trailer with my 08 5.7 V8 Tundra 4X4, I got about 11 MPG and then pulled my in-laws' 23' ski boat to Arkansas and got an avg of 13-15 MPG. I love my tundra. If I was on flat surfaces, I would turn off Tow/OH and let it ride in 6th gear. But I do have an unfair advantage with a 471 Rear end

Friend has a Tundra and it gets about 11 mpg towing a 19ft Skeeter. My 04 Dodge 4x4 with Hemi gets around 12 mpg towing 21 ft Ranger. I have 192K miles on that one. (It is for sale if anyone is interested.lol) Just bought an 2011 Hemi 4x4 and it gets about 12 or maybe just a little over. Non towing mileage is a little better tho. I hear some guys claim 15 or so towing but when it comes to sharing expenses, I have never seen mileage that good tho.
