07 Tundra 5.7 Liter TRD with tow package. 10.5 per gallon with a Ranger Z21. I like the truck, but wish I had gotten 4WD for slick steep ramps or wish I could of gotten it with a locking rear diff.

geez... not much love for the MADE IN TEXAS tundra. except for mine, MADE IN INDIANA!!! I have an 08 Tundra 4x4 with the 5.7L and 6speed tranny.
i drove my boat and truck (since I was moving) back from Oregon to Indiana. Then I moved with truck & boat (this time loaded to the gills) from Indiana down to Texas. My best milage was going through the hills in California were I got 18mpg in tow mode. Now keep in mind that I wasn't trying to sustain 70mph going uphill for the sole purpose of trying to get better milage. The overall average (Oregon to Indiana) going ~65mph the whole way back was 16.3mpg TOWING. When coming down from Indiana I had considerably more weight in the truck and boat and got right at about 15mpg. I also didn't have the hills to help out either. Once again, I'm pretty easy on the pedal when gas is almost $4 per gallon. Of course, when you do hammer down you can blow the doors off people on the highway, even if you are towing. Love that 6 speed tranny. The absolute worst I've gotten while towing was right at 14mpg going through some windy roads in oregon. Without towing, I get right around 18-19 for a highway average. In town it sucks, but who's truck doesn't. My Dad has the 2011 Tundra with the 4.6 V8 and 2wd and gets 22+ mpg. His truck also still has 310hp, not too shabby for a small block. The only reason why I got a Tundra was because of the consumer reports ratings. Every vehicle I've had has been right on the mark with any issues that CR listed. Of course, I still only have 55k on my tundra. Easy to brag about a vehicle until it has 150k. i do love my hydraulic assist tailgate. Not real sure of its significant purpose, but its just fun to play with.

I have a 2010 Tundra 4x4 with the 5.7 engine. Pulling my 17'1" Champion I get 14-15mpg and without towing I can get up to 18.5 on the highway.

I have the new Ford ecoboost and hauled my tr-21x to Amistad and averaged 16.5, it is a 4x4 king ranch and empty it will average 20 all day long. I was a little worried when I first got it, was only averaging 17. But once I got around 8k miles the mileage really picked up. I bought this truck for my wife when I bought the new 6.7 ford deisel. It averages 19 on the hwy, and around 16 pulling my boat.

I also have an '07 Tundra TRD, and the tow pkg. I am quite happy with the limited slip rear diff. I have only slipped on one ramp, and that was last October on Ivie after a tournament, WET ramp, and it didn't slip bad at all. Unlike the goats, fords, and chevys that were burning their tires off trying to get up the ramp. actually, I thought that my truck has a locking diff, but what do I know? And re Westtexbass82, some Tundras (mine included) have a GVWR of 10,000#'s, which, I'm fairly certain qualifies the Tundra as a 3/4 ton, not a 1/2 ton. To the OP, I get around 16.5-17 on the highway unloaded, and around 13-14 pulling my boat (17.5'), and when I but a big boy boat like a zx250 behind it, I get around 12-13 depending on how heavy my foot is, terrain, etc. Overall, I love the truck. It can easily do anything I ask it to, it looks good, rides well, and the handling is pretty impressive for a truck. If I had been looking for great gas mileage when I was shopping for a ride, I would have bought a Prius, but I was looking for a truck that could pull boats and trailers with ease, and that would have the available power that I needed, so I bought the Tundra. I have owned (or had as a company vehicle) almost every truck you can think of (excluding f-150), and I would take the Tundra over any gas engine powered truck out there. diesel, well, that is another animal entirely. I would take a diesel from any brand over the Tundra, but the price was/is right on used Tundras, nto so much on used deisels.

Toyota is gettin 10mpg towing. Two real close friends of mine have them and that's what they are getting. Neither one are buyin another one...
On another note like tritonman said look at that new ford Eco motor. I just bought one and so far I have gotten 20 or better on the highway. Haven't been a great distance with the boat yet but will pull as fast as you want to go. Friends of mine say they are getting 15-17 pulling their boats with it.

The new Ford Ecoboost is the best of both worlds with fuel economy and power. The new Ford Ecoboost engine is a twin turbo V6 that has 365 HP and 420 lbs of torque which is what matters when towing, not bad for a V6. Equiped with the max tow pkg it can tow 11,300 LBS. The Toyota 5.7L V8 has 381HP and 401 lbs of torque and from what I can tell will tow 10,400 LBS properly equiped. Ford has come a long way with the technology in there trucks and there new V6 proves it. Im not going to bash Toyota but I will give you all the info that is available to me on any truck Ford or Toyota that you may have questions about. There are so many different combinations of drivetrains and good trucks on the market it would take all day to list. By the way I am the General Manager of a Ford store and an avid bass angler. I would be glad to help anyone in any way I can just give me a call. My name is David and my direct line is (210) 921-6825

I've definately heard more people say that tundra is a gas drinker when towing. Most people seem to really like them until a trailer is hooked behind it. It has plenty of pulling power, but from what i've heard the mpg is nearly cut in half with a trailer behind it.

Well put. I am biased being a ford salesman, but the only truck that I would really say avoid if you want to pull is the 5.3 Silverado. Just has no muscle compared to the tundra, f150, or ram IMO I understand this holds no weight at all on a forum where you better have a 20+ foot boat to speak a word, but I can hardly feel my 17' Triton behind my '04 1500 Silverado with the 5.3L. Also, I have pulled it in a Tundra and F-150 and I think they're all pretty comparable. All that being said, my dad had a real hard time towing a lightweight trailer behind his 2006 Chevy with the 5.3L and I had another buddy who had all kinds of trouble with his 07 with the 5.3L, so I think the newer 5.3L's are not as good as the old ones. At least that's been my experience.
