when i lived in VA i use to use hellgramites to catch smallies. They are mean little suckers.

About 9 or 10 years ago I was out bank fishing at Tyler State Park. I had caught a couple of 14 - 15 inch bass earlier in the morning, but had struck out for about the next 4 hours. Anyway, I was watching a young fella and his 8-10 year old daughter fishing from a nice Skeeter. Dad was in front pitching a weightless Texas-Rig. He kept getting strikes, but not hooking up, or hooking up and having the fish throw the hook, etc.. The little girl is in the back with here Barbie polo, and bobber rig. She ask her dad to bait the hook for her. He replied that he would in a bit as he was hot on the trail of the elusive largemouth.

After a while the little girl gets up and opens the ice chest and pulls out a pouch of fruit drink, the ones with the little straws tapped to the side. She also gets a big bag of huge cheese puffs, and goes back to her seat on the back deck for a little picnic.

Well, I keep watching her dad keep missing, etc. the wilily bass that he�s after. After a bit the little girl who�s sipping her drink, and munching her cheese puffs gets a thoughtful look on her face. She then proceeds to bait her hook with a cheese puff, and cast this into the water. The bobber settles down and the ripples die out. After about an additional 30 seconds the bobber is YANKED underwater, and the girl starts calling out to her dad that she�s caught a fish. After several minutes of fighting the fish her dad nets a nice bass I estimate to have been about four or five pounds. Her dad never caught a fish that afternoon. The kicker is that she offered her dad her Barbie pole so he could catch a bassfish.

Little girls are evil I tell ya...

Smoked by a girl, her Barbie pole, and whacky rigged Cheeto....

Shortly after WW2 I had a bait called a B 29. It was about 2 in long and a fair replica of that aircraft.It had 4 spinning props and a red white & blue rooster tail.Actually caught a few pond bass on the thing.

As a youngman while visiting my grandparents in FL. My grandfather always worked at the CAPE and I would ask my grandmother to take me to the pond in the neighborhood. She finally gave in and took me to K-mart and bought me a zebco 33 and the little kit that came with it. I did not have a single worm or anything that looked like a worm. I looked around the house trying to find something to use. I looked and looked I just could not find anything. I called my grandfather and asked Papa do we have any lures. He said "yes" I was so happy at that point I was asking where are they he said look in the "Ice Box" I'm thinking to myself the joke is on me. He said "sport you see that brick of fat back make you a worm out of that! get a knife and cut you a worm. "wow" I fished for the summer using good old fashion BACON. It has always stuck with me to this day! Just Keep It Simple! Sport don't overthing IT! Just go fishing!
