+1 on Santone Jigs! Lots of $$ have been won on a Santone jig in East texas. Great local company and product. 2 colors I would go with Black-Brown-Amber and Sloppy Joe.

NO such thing as the "best" jig and "best" color. The jig is the MOST versatile bait in your arsenal. Best implies singularity and there is no such thing in bass jigs.

I like Spitnfire jigs. www.spitnfirejigs.com These jigs have put many fish in the boat for me. Lots of great colors to choose from, but my favorites are watermelon sugar free and green pumpkin.

Primary colors you need:

1)Some version of watermelon

2)Some version of peanut butter and jelly

3) black and blue

very true! you should not get stuck on one particular color or brand. There are many great companies to choose from, and a little from each goes a long ways. There may be one particular company that sticks out to you that you like better than others, so you may have the majority of jigs from that one company. Supporting all these companies no matter what percentage is what keeps this wonderful industry advancing each year! Like Fouz says, there is not just "one" out there that is a cure all/do all wink I personally prefer one company for 80% of my jigs, and have an assortment of other company's baits in my boat.

My best advise to you is to try a handful of different brands and figure out which ones feel best to you. For me personally its Talon Custom Lures, as a prostaffer I know it seems like a generic answer... but I fell in love with these products long before I was ever granted a staff position. I sampled a dozen different brands, for me Talon was the one that fit best... the fact that I caught a 7lb fish on my first flip with their jigs might have played a slight role in my decision. smile

Color wise these work year round for me.. Texas Craw, Buda's Breeding season, Blk and Blue, Watermelon Candy, and Blk Brwn & Amber.

Type of jig comes down to application more so than season for me..
Thick Grass, pads, or reeds - Grass Jig.

Deeper water with minimal brush - 5/8oz Football Head or Ookii Jig

Floating docks - Ookii Jig, Yana, or Yuugyo

Shallow Docks, brush, heavy cover, or sparse grass - Original Flipping, Yuugyo, or Gikou Riki

Deep Heavy cover - Original Flipping or Gikou Riki

My advise would be to search for a brand that has good natural colors, strong hook, and hand tied silicon skirts. Lots of good brands out there. I would say best year round color would be watermelon/red. Try to match the color of the crawfish during the time of year in the lake you are fishing. If the water is stained I go with a darker color like green pumpkin/orange. If its muddy, then I go with black/blue. Use a good trailer that has a lot of action such as Strike King rage craws.
If I'm flipping or swimming a jig, then I try to match the color of shad, bream, tilapia or any other baitfish. I usually put a small 4" swimbait on as a trailer in matching colors. You can even get creative and put a swimbait on a Arkie style jig and catch some Monsters like I did recently.

Winter it's hard to beat a 3/4 oz Rattlin Jig in PB&J

Spring: They make a killer swim jig. This one is called Sloppy Joe, but they have lots of other great colors.

Summer: I like to fish the 3/4 oz again, but since they came out with their finesse jig it's been the go to this summer. This is probably my favorite color called River Bream

Fall you can mix in all the above with an emphasis on a white or baby bass colored swim jig.

They have also came out with a new jig designed by Elite Series Pro Matt Herren called the M-Series. I haven't gotten to play with it much yet but it looks promising and I love this color. Bama Bug

You can look at more colors here http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Santone_Lures/catpage-SANLURE.html

Heath, that Bama Bug jig is pretty slick looking in color. I like it.
I started throwing a jig alot more this year. I really like the LFT M-Pack jig in black/blue with a plum streak. That color has been good to me this year.
I might have to try out that Bama Bug Santone color, looks good.

I use Rockcrawler for football jigs & Dirty Jigs for everything else. I've been very pleased with both jig companies.

Im still up in the air about my favorite brand. Ive thrown quite a few different brands, and have enjoyed similar success on them. Im still not THAT experienced with a jig, not enough to say one brand suits me better than the other. Color however, I am. Ive built my confidence in watermelons/green pumpkins,PB&J, black and blue, and white during the spawn. (visibility when sight fishing)
