I'm right handed and been fishing my whole life. I have always thrown with my right and then crank with my right. Just wondered how many people do this. I dont think I could throw left but thinkin about tryin a lefty reel.

I throw right and reel right. I was always told its faster to throw with 1 and reel with another hand, but after doing it this way for so many years its not worth a switch. I can switch and still keep a buzzbait from going beneath the surface so thats enough for me. Where I wish I could switch is when Im flipping, I think that would help some.

Depends on if I'm using Spinning or Casting gear.
Casting: I cast and reel with the right hand, just use the left hand to hold the reel during retrieve and the butt of the rod during casting.
Spinning gear: I cast right handed and reel with the left. The reel seat never leaves my right hand. I literally cannot stand to use a spinning reel with right hand crank. Drives me batty.

99% of my casts are two-handed unless I'm pitching. I'm a hand switcher on casts. Can pitch with either hand.

ya kinda the same way for me. I can throw a buzzbait and switch before it goes under. Ive been doing it for so long I dont really think it hurts but just wondered how many people do it.

Bait casting, Right and right... Spincast Right and then reel left. Not really sure why it feels so akward reeling right handed on a spincast since I do so o a baitcast.
Dads uncle always said to cast left handed so you can be ready to reel in....but like CharleyW, I can switch and reel in plenty of time and do it without realizing

I can cast, pitch or flip with either hand but can only reel well with my right. When I try to use a left handed baitcast reel I end up holding the reel handle still and turning the rod!
Retirement best job ever.

I am mainly right handed, cast with my right and reel with my left. Learned this way when young and fishing creeks for trout, gotta use right hand to cast with for rod control. That being said, I can reel with either hand, but am more comfortable with reeling lefty.

I learned with a casting reel to cast right handed, and switch hands. I also learned to use a spinning reel casting right handed. About 12 years ago I was watching a show where they talked about changing hands and how many extra casts you could get in a day by not doing that. Now I dont know if they actually tested this out, but it made me think, and after, I forced myself to start casting left handed. It took me some time to get as accurate with my flipping, but I am just as good with either hand now. Something else that this has done for me is that being able to cast and flip/pitch with either hand has given me better angles at difficult targets, something to think about. Another thing that this does is if something happens and I hurt a shoulder/arm/elbow or whatever I can go to my spinning gear which is cast right reel left, opposite of my casting gear. Just some food for thought. The first person I ever saw use a left handed casting reel was Orlando Wilson, and that had to be around 25 years ago. JR
