Are you stating that if I am in the boat lane fishing you have the right to blow right by me on pad within say 10-20yds. I think you are mistaken. If that is your rule, then that should be the rule everywhere according to your flawed theory, fair game according to you in a cove or creek you are fishing nobody has to respect your fishing area that you selected to fish. Boat lane fishing does not expempt people from common courtesey or boating rules, although there are alot on here that seem to feel that way. The boat lane is simply a marked safer route on some lakes and nothing more. It is not a highway or a tollroad and there is no minimum or maximum speed restrictions and certainly nowhere in the rules states if I am in a botlane some idiot has the right to run their overpriced, highly financed superrig that they may or may not have control of boat near me.
You better read the rules again. what if your over priced rig is paid for???

go by me on pad, i dont care how close if we are in a river/boatlane (unless my son is with me, then please give some room). I can react quick enough by myself if something were to happen(jump, etc). with my son or wife in there, i would not be able to react quickly to save myself or them. is it dangerous to go on plane by someone less than 40 yards- YES! so is driving on 635 every day! just give me a wider berth if I have people in the boat with me.

This is what I teach my 9 yr old. If the area to go around the other boat is small and the other boat is fishing...turn off the big motor...drop the trolling motor and go around the other boat. Once you have past their casting area, pull up the trolling motor and go ahead with the big motor...it might take an extra 2 minutes....

I think its moe about safety than the wake. what happens if you are blowing by me at 70 and you have a careless moment or your steering breaks etc etc causing you to lose control.....If I have loved ones in the boat I'd strongly prefer that you come off plane early and idle by if the lane is restricted. If you don't have to get close, then stay on plane and keep your distance.

I am glad that we are all clear on this subject now!!! Clear as muddy water. I guess there is no general thought on what is the right thing to do. Use common sense, I say. That is...if you have any. Give a wide berth when possible and don't act like clueless ski boat driver.

You better read the rules again. what if your over priced rig is paid for??? Well, then you are in the minortiy and hopefully with that you are also responsible. I heard though the grapevine you were though. Most of the others who own the lake and nobody has a right to tell them what to do....not so much. They likely are financed to their eyeballs and respect few if any. I see them all the time, mostly Dems from what I can tell.

I fish Fork alot and usually will spend time up around Coffee Creek area. The boat lanes on that end before you turn to go to the oil well I would guess are maybe 30 yards wide and I have been waved by before but also been given some obscene gestures as I go by but when I get ready to make the turn to run to the oil well should I be expected to come off pad. I have made that run many many times and if you let off your asking for trouble. I will stop and idle by if someone is dead in the middle of the running lane to where i have to hug the tree line so would I be wrong to run by or stop and take a chance of not being able to get back on pad? If youve made the run you know what Im talking about. Just curious about these situations.

If there is a boat coming up in our paths, we should all be thinking "How can I get through here SAFELY FOR BOTH OF US?"
Unfortunately, this subject, when broached on the water, depends too much on common sense. Alot of people have it and use it. Alot of people have it, yet don't exercise it. Alot of people don't have, and never will have, any of it at all.
Who cares anyway? The lakes are all drying up.

-Alton exactly my point , even though I HATE to agree with you , lol.. one side or the other is always saying the other is to blame, when in fact it should be 50/50 so everyone enjoys a safe and fun day on the water..

Just imagine that your family is in the boat thats fishing, let your concious do the rest. When I encounter people who drive stupid I try to remember that thats someone's mother or dad or kid and I would hate for someone to gesture one of my family members. So I try to just let it roll off.....most of the time...some of the time..every now and then....once maybe.

Usually fast is better. Up on pad. I hate it when people slow down It's a sign of cluelessness usually.

Main lake or boat lane, on plane, in cove you shouldn't be passing unless the boat is coming out and remember there is a good chance you might disturb the bite if you are using the big motor to get deep into the cove.
