Does anyone know of a lake in Texas where one can catch yellow perch?

I mean true perch, not sunfish.

TPWD last stocked yellow perch in 1997, and I wonder if any of the lakes reached sustainable populations.

Doubt any survived once the water warmed up - similar to the rainbow trout stockings in winter. Once the waters warm up, they don't survive the increase temperature. Might want to talk to the inland fisheries biologist over the city/county ponds those were stocked in.

It'd be interesting if some could still be caught in Texas. Then Texas really would have "perch" grin

I wish we did have good populations of yellow perch in Texas. That to me is the best tasting fish in the world.

I've always wanted to catch some of those. I hear they're good fighters, delicious, and get bigger than sunfish. Aren't they related to walleye?
Wonder if there's any in Oklahoma?

They would defiantly have to be in the northern lakes. It is just to dang hot here in South Texas!

I too have always wanted to go perch fishing.

Walleye are the largest members of the perch family, just as large mouthed bass are the largest sunfish.

As best as I can determine, yellow perch are only in northern Oklahoma. I would welcome other responses telling me which lakes they are in.

Yellow perch aren't really known for the fight and a 2lb perch is a jumbo. They are quite tasty, though.

I was told by a GW that Meredith, Mckenzie and greenbelt still have Yellowbellies in them.

I'm from Michigan, I miss eating them, lol.

All/yellow perch fishing;
In New Mexico( the north east part of the state) there are four lake that have yellow perch. 1. Stubblefield, near Maxwell. 2.Springer,near Springer. 3.Lower Charette, near Wagon Mound. 4. Miami, near Maimi. This listed as private.
This information comes from"Fishing in New
exicoby Ti Piper. Third printing 1989.
I understand(rumored) that there is plans to stock them in Wheeler Branch just for you smithhaven ( Feel the tug on one of your lower extremities)

When NMDG&F stocked Yellow perch into a trout lake. Oops. The fishing for perch at Eagle Nest is really good. Friends that fish for trout tell me how nasty they are and they stick them in their hands, those fish are the debil. LOL Give them all to me then. smile
