I too have a soft spot for flounder. Some of my favorite memories as a child was walking around with my little brother in the bay at all hours of the night with a gig and a coleman lantern in hand.

Over the last few years, I have caught fewer and fewer of them. I'm glad that they imposed stricter regulations on the limits and gigging. It seems to have helped them rebound, because I'm starting to catch more of them again.

The main tip I have for catching flounder is to pay attention to your bait. Live mud minnows about 2 1/2 to 3 inches long are the best flounder bait period. Fish it on a carolina rig with about a 1 foot leader and a 1/4 oz egg weight. I've found that areas that have mixes of grass, a little bit of shell, and sand are usually best. If you can find them close to passes that have moving water, even better. Just slowly crawl the mud minnow around the outside edges of the grass and you'll find some.

Another favorite flounder bait, if you like artificial is a gulp shrimp on an 1/8 to 1/16 oz jighead.

I knew (or atleast hoped) that there'd be a few more Flounder lovers (beyond just eating them) out there along with me. They're unique and I love and respect them so much that I just had to create this thread! Obviously, I also am glad to hear of others enjoying and appreciating it. All I gotta say is "Welcome To The DoorMat, Buds"...lol!
