here is a DNR link for common fish caught in Lake Superior.
they have an exceptional popluation of smallmouths not very meny Largemouth bass spots around But some inland lakes boast a few.
some of these will literally tow the yak for a good adsventure.

Here is the canoe my Brothers (Dennis) friend built of wood and fiberglassed the outside. he let us use it while I was up there. wow what a wilderness adventure.

That looks like an awesome trip. I miss MIchigan sometimes and love to go there in the summer. I'm from Grand Rapids.

Oh wow we thought that far south yall were southern bells, thought Texas was another country LOL. My bro is sending me some pics of his recent Isle Royal trip I will post some when they get in. He did another 3 day trip to another Island off the tip of keweenaw county. Lake superipor got unfriendly he had to cut the trip short He said he was beginning to wonder if he was actually going to get back in one piece or not this trip. Went to bed in the tent and woke up inna storm. He is pretty gutsy in his yak. He said he lost control once big wave spun him around sideways a few rounds but he was able to recover. He was nine miles out from shore. Said it was 46 degrees when he woke up.

Planning a trip to northern Minnasota in 2012. Yaks for sure maybe a canoe too, not sure about a boat trip yet. Any suggestions? Fishing greatness greatly desired too!

FYI for the few snowbirds hanging around this post. We will be heading to extream upper michigan first weekend in october. will be doing the canoe again. This trip we will be consentrating on some of the bigger rivers for Fall rainbow trout and mouths of a few choice rivers dumping into Lake superior. We will be hoping to hook a few spawning COHO SALMON> Let me know if you wanna meet up up there yall are welcome to join us.
Last time we did a fall trip in them splendor of colored leaves like no place on earth. We fished the mouth of the huron river baraga county. Drove millions of miles on an old logging road. no need for canoe. Standin in knee deep water in lake superior casting across the mouth of the river. huge white caps comming over the tops of our heads freezing cold sleet ice all that kinda COOL STUFF why we shouldta went. BUT SALMON ALL OVER THE PLACE limited out in just a few minutes. Musta been 150 200 diehard COHO chasers fishin them hoorable troubled waters. and game warrdens everywhere in plane cloths bustin all them gotta catch just a few more over the limit types. Had a blast hope to refresh that reality in a couple weeks. Could do without some of them early blizzrads tho. But if thats what triggers a serious trout/salmon feeding frenzy LET ISNOW LET IT SNOW. JOIN US thanks.

Thanks we sure did! You know northern michigan has rivers, lakes, creeks, ponds, forrests, mountains, logging trails, snowmobile trails, and 3 of the 5 great lakes boundries it. No matter what the weather is like a REAL GOOD FISHIN HOLE IS CLOSE.
shoulda stayed another week or 2 (month LOL). After being in the boonies in such remote wilderness areas, can quickly spoil a fella!flying in at night over DFW wow lights past the horizon in any direction I thought this much expansion seems totally impossable. We got about 3-400 pictures and clips too.I know so meny good fishin hole up there I oughta be a guide LOL.

Salmon in plenty of rivers! Steelhead monsters running up rivers everywhere! Lake trout moving into shallower waters! A fishermans dream time of year! yakers paradise! http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,4570,7-153-10364_52261_52262-211883--,00.html <<-- I fish mostly type 3 rivers this time of year. FISH EVERYWHERE!!! just a lil breezy under the skirt. lol Dry bagfulla change of dry cloths fixes that too.

I havent been back in 8 or 9 years. I cant seem to get off work. My mother lives here also( in dfw) she makes me a dozen or so pastys a year. I am going to take my son to isle royale when he turns 8 as my father did me. That is probably the next time, next summer.

Aint it cool sure would like to put a trip together for next fall plenty of stuff to see and do for the nonfishermen to. People who visit usally come back. I still aint stopped thinking about it. Can you just immagine the conversations if a bunch of us from here did a spring or fall fishing fest there. Me personally i like fall, lots of folks like spring. summer wasnt good fishing last year in july. Winter is ice fishing in abundance too, Now thats really a differant kind of fishing enthusiest.
