Bad deal!!! I agree with Lance_Wallen! Small Business is the best Policy. The bigger retailers are all about the promos and granted some offer good deals with but most come with a who are you attitude after the sale. But I believe day in day out that the Local small business will always out perform the larger retail. Have we put a price on old fashion customer service? The problem with the smaller stores is that they charge more for eveything. They have to to compete. Sad fact. 6 in one hand, half a dozen in the other. Nobody can be more expensive than BPS, there prices have gone way high!!

That stinks, sounds like you found an employee who was having a really bad day. I deal with the Garland BPS pretty much anytime I need fishing equipment and I've had nothing but good luck finding good customer service. They've taken back broken rods, bad transducers and many other items, some that I didn't have receipts for at all. And when they have sales, you can find some really good deals. Their normal prices seem high, but I can't really find the same stuff cheaper anywhere other than online stores. Tackle Warehouse is great if you know what you want and you're not in a huge hurry to get it, but I've never had any problems with Bass Pro.

I like having mega stores (Bass Pro and Cabella's) in the area. They would be sorely missed if they closed their doors and we had to buy everything mail order. I've never had problems with them.
If we concentrated on the really important stuff in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles

BPS is not the same place it use to be... but I guess people tearing stuff up and returning it causes problems for folks like us who really deserve replacement instead of denial.

I bought at BPS crankin stick about a year and a half ago. my dog sniffed a crankbait that was tied to the rod, broke the rod in half. I went to BPS grapevine and not only did they replace the rod free, they gave me a refund on the same new rod because it was on sale. maybe because it was their brand, but I'll go back to BPS allt the time. Great service for me.

Great service for me. Congrats, you were very lucky. I haven't been to BPS in Grapevine in nearly 10 years because of poor customer service. I broke a Falcon Lowrider rod when I caught a big drum. When I tried to exchange it I was told to go " Jump in the Lake." So I did and never returned. I worked hard to save up for that rod. The customer service in Garland isn't any better either.

Angler's Pro Tackle and Brannan's are two local stores that take care of people. I am sure there are others these are just two I hear good things about all the time.

Bass Pro will not exchange their own rods anymore as of the beginning of this year. You have to buy the replacement warranty if you expect replacement for a defective rod. Otherwise, all you will get is a store credit for whatever they value your rod at. You are still liable if it was not a defect and damaged.
I had video evidence that I snapped a RC C- Rig rod in 2 on a hookset. The fish didnt weigh 2 lbs. but yet they said the rod must have been stepped on or previously damaged. There was nothing on the rod that would suggest that. I got $30 credit on a $159 combo and the rod sales for $80-$90. I was stuck with a reel and no rod for it. I went away from Falcon because of the old BPS replacement policy and started buying all BPS stuff. Now, after about $9k spent I have all Cara's, E7's, Chronarch 50mg's, and Core 50mg's. I guess I will just have to mail them in for warranty and wait opposed to walking in and out with a replacement.

Also, this was a couple months after my dad snapped his rod on a hookset at the handle(cork and all) while fishin on Ray Hubbard. He drove the boat over there and docked it. He walked in and came right back out with a new rod and no questions asked. The same guy that replaced his gave me the run around. Old, short, gray headed guy that been there for years. Same guy said that BPS will now start changing the looks of each model rod and reel yearly so they will know if it is the current year model or not. I guess he was right as most of the models went from a sparkly color to a matte finish and other colors associated with certain models just flat out changed completely.

There is a date code on all BPS rods and reels. You can usually find it on the bottom of the reel seat, and just passed the specs on the rod. That is how they determine the date. It is always one letter followed by one number. The number represents the year (so a rod with D7 on it indicates that it was made in 07). Sounds like the guy just felt like being difficult. If they take back returns, it takes the price refunded out of that sections sales for the day. Many times people will refuse returns if they are really low, or very close to making the days sales.

As of when did this date code take place? My assumption is that this is something they just started for the end of '10 or beginning of '11. .If that is not the case then why did the employees not know about it? I paid over $2k in cash the day I bought that combo amongst other things. Their system didnt reflect anything except for boat oil and a few lures...lol

I have rods from 2001 with the date code. The employee should have known about it. The system should show everything you bought that day (there are a few different ways to look up the purchase). I don't really know why they were being so difficult.
PM me if you have more questions, I'd be happy to go into more detail.

Just got back from BPS. Needed some last minute stuff for a tournament. I get there and they don't have LFT 10" worms, their other store across town does! Ok, so I go for bait #2. They don't have the color, great. Off to look at under armor guide shirts. Oh wait, they don't have any. One guy says "we ask for stuff but they just never send it to us". I finally corner a manager is talking to my friend who works there. After telling him about my concerns he says "she's the one that needs to hear it". She doesn't say anything. Needless to say I dropped a complaint in the box. Tacklewarehouse, cabelas, and a few smaller guys have my business now.
