Just recently had a rod that i bought several months ago for 199.99 dollars break and eye. Took it up to bass pro and they said that they only offer store credit for a rod if purchases within 30 days. Ok cool no worries right? But if I were to buy their 2 yr replacement warranty on another rod today ( another I picked out) that they could do a full refund no problem. If I didn't want to purchase ther warranty on a new rod I would have to take my old one and ship it to the manufacturer. On a 175 dollar rod this was 50 dollars. Sounds like black mail to me. They had the ability to refund it with no problem. I assured them they had lost me as a customer. I will no be sticking with www.tacklewarehouse.com from now on. Rant over

I had the same rant at the beginning of the year. I have not been back since except for a club meeting.

The way the "Protection Plan" works (even at Cabelas) is: !) Must not be able to be used as a weapon, knife, bow, gun, bullets, blades, stuff like that. 2) anything containing mechanical components, stitching, or zippers can be protected. 3) Must be normal wear and tear, not run over, chopped up, dog ate it, or any other accidents not by regular usage 4) Full refund for item under the plan.
If you do get the plan... it will cost you EASILY 25% of the price.
If you don't stand behind those protecting you, feel free to stand in front of them.

I do my best to not deal with big companies when I have the chance for a variety of reasons.
1. I like to support small businesses, especially in this economy. I'll even pay a lil extra for something just to buy it from a guy that's local.
2. 9 times out of 10 you can't beat local customer service. They live on word of mouth and repeat business from the locals so they jump through hoops to keep you happy.
3. I like knowing the people I deal with. I dunno what it is but I find one or two folks at a store, even a big store and I tend to only deal with them. I like to know their name and have them remember mine. My favorite thing in the world is walkin into a store and before I ask about what I'm there to buy I ask about the sales associates family. You don't get that much at big stores.
Sorry about your situation Baylorbassguy, just wish we had more local shops to walk into to buy things. I hate buyin junk on the internet.

They did the same to me. I'd rather ship back to the manufacture for $15 than drive to BPS and deal with their BS.

Rant over I had an issue with a similar situation on a Falcon Cara I bought from them and ended up talking to Falcon directly about the same thing. It's NOT Bass Pro's fault...it's the manufacturer's telling them to reject the return and have them deal directly with the manufacturer. This all started a few years ago because every person who broke their rod tip in the door or stepped on their rod returned it as defective and the stores replaced all of them at the cost of the rod company. The warranty program is what these big stores have set up which puts the cost burden on them instead of the manufacturer, hence the reason they charge for the warranty.

Had the same thing happen over a year ago and the rod has a lifetime warranty. I only use BPS if I am in a terrible bind.

Bad deal!!! I agree with Lance_Wallen! Small Business is the best Policy. The bigger retailers are all about the promos and granted some offer good deals with but most come with a who are you attitude after the sale. But I believe day in day out that the Local small business will always out perform the larger retail. Have we put a price on old fashion customer service?

The problem with the smaller stores is that they charge more for eveything. They have to to compete. Sad fact. 6 in one hand, half a dozen in the other.
