I've always wanted to be closer to Big Sam and T- Bend and now I have the chance for a good job promotion in my company but it would be in the Longview area , what would be ya'lls advice about relocating to that area ?

Depends on what you want. If you don't want in town and need a good school district I would say Union Grove or White Oak. WO is about 10 min from Longview and UG is about 15. Union Grove is 45 min from Lake Fork and 30 min from about 5 different lakes. If you want in town I can't help much. Feel free to PM me if you need any more info.

You'll love it as far as fishing goes. Pines, Perky, Gilmer, Sandlin, Fork, and Tyler are all within 1 hr drive. Most are just 30 minutes. Rayburn and Toledo are 1.5 - 2 hrs away from here depending on where you launch.

What company are you with?

But you give up Cisco, Hubbard Creek, Leon, Fort Phantom, and Stamford.

Is it worth it?

Dozen or more lakes within 1 hour of Longview....Can't beat that.

Yeah TBend is close and so is Sam Rayburn...same drive time as someone driving from DFW to Fork.

Some of the riches schools in the area are right here....everyone of them as been rebuilt in the last 2 years or is currently being rebuilt.

I had the choice to leave this town 15 years ago and couldn't do it...too much fishing and hunting to be done!

Come on and join us!

PM if you have any questions.

I grew up in Longview but do your homework on the schools. I went to Longview High and it was awesome but it's not 1980 something anymore. It may be the same now, I just don't know. Great mid sized town. Go Lobos.

I live in Longview and if you have kids in school would reccomend living outside the Longview school district, White Oak, New Diana or some of the others mentioned. If you move into Longview try to stay in the Pine Tree district, better schools and home resale. The fishing is great, lots of good lakes close.

Being that your wife is in the medical field it might be worth considering moving to somewhere about half way between Longview and Tyler. I say this because there are two major hospital systems based out of Tyler, Trinity Mother Francis, and East Texas Medical Center. Longview also has a couple of larger medical systems I believe, but theyre not as large as the two in Tyler. Also there is the University of Texas Medical Center at Tyler about half way between Loop 323 in Tyler, and I-20 on US 271.

By getting a home about half-way between Tyler, and Longview you would maximize her opportunities to find work without having a 40 minute or more commute.

I live in Northwest Tyler just inside Loop 323 and taught part-time for a couple of years an Le Tourneau University on the East side of Longview. It was exactly 40 miles from my house to my parking spot at Le Tourneau. I could normaly make the commute in 45 minutes, though it could be a bit more than 50 minutes if the traffic was not cooperating.

You might also take a look-see at Kilgore. Its about 20 minutes from Tyler, and perhaps a bit close than that to Longview. Ive heard that the housing costs are fairly low in Kilgore, but I cant personally vouch for that.

Like everyone has said, whats taking so long... White Oak is great, BUT STAY away from Kilgore.. lots of crime and run down homes... Longview also has Good Sheparhd hospital, nice place to work..

There should be plenty of jobs for both of you around here. Oil and gas is booming! And of course the medical field is too!

Do not look over the Liberty City area (Sabine ISD). The schools are great and it is centrally located between Longview and Tyler. It is a small community where everyone still knows each other. I am still not sure whether that is a pro or con. We have been here for almost 10 years and have not regretted it once. Hallsville is a city growing and is known for their school district (pricey land values), and it is just east of Longview.
