Hey guys I'm new to the site and I had some questions about fishing here in Lubbock. I used the search tool to find some local ponds and what not to fish at. All the ones I've tried locally seem to be nothing but baby cats and perch. I do not have a boat so I'll be doing all bank/pier fishing. From what I've been reading Lake Alan Henry isn't much for bank fishing due to the lack of available banks to fish off of. Is White river reservoir a better place to bank fish than Alan Henry? I would hate to drive out there to find nowhere to fish. Thanks for the input guys.

White River probably has easier access for a bank fisherman. Don't forget Buffalo Springs Lake just east of town. There are lots of accessable spots on the bank plus TPWD stocks stripers there.

It'd be really cool to go fish Buffalo Springs early in the AM before the wakeboarders get out there.

Buffalo Springs is flagged on the TPWD web site as recovering from golden algae.
Lake Alen Henry has a consumption advisory for mercury.
White River has an advisory for low lake level.
You may be better off at the community lakes.
When I was growing up in Lubbock Buffalo Springs was all there was.

If you plan on eating what you catch I wouldn't go to Buffalo.

White river is your best bet for bank fishing. They worked all spring clearing additional area's to use.Certain times of the year the crappie house is some pretty good fishing too !!

I agree with Rad. I grew up in Crosbyton and White River was the only lake I ever fished at. The crappie house is a good place to start. The keeper to dink ratio is about 1-30 or more but it keeps it lively.

Ah yes, I forgot about the walleye. I caught a six pounder inside the crappie house several years back. Very tasty...

Lots of good fishing all around. Your best bet would be to get a kayak or float tube. The crappie at Alan Henry right now are incredible.

LL, what part of Alan Henry? I haven't been there in years and have only fished from the fishing barge. Also, jigs or minnows?

Welcome to the forum. All the little lakes here in Lubbock stay fished out of decent size fish. If it dont rain soon, most of them will be dry in another month. Alan henry is a lttle low right now, so a few spots have opened up for bank fishing. White river is your best bet. Plenty of places to bank fish there. It was about 30 feet low, but after the heavy rains last year, it came up alot. Not sure how low it is now. The crappie bite is good from what ive heard. Last time i was there catfish were good on minnows. Be sure to get a daily permit at the marina, Johnny the lake ranger will ask for it, if he sees you. Good luck.

Well I recently purchased a kayak to take out and I've been to ransom canyon (cause it's close) and white river so far. Caught nothing but cats in ransom canyon but in white river me and a friend ran across a school of red drum and it was pretty fun. I'd like to go there on the reg but its so much $$ in gas!

Red drum in white river? I doubt it. They did stock them once...35 years ago. None in there now. You probably found freshwater drum.
