Let the games begin... all entries must be submitted no later than midnight Wednesday, August 31, 2011.

rules
1. Have Fun

2. 2 flies must be tied as follows:
a) first fly is mandatory, everyone must tie a woolly booger (no exceptions) this fly is required, it can be your style, conehead or not, weighted, all natural or synthetic material, as long as it is tied by the entrant. The purpose of this fly is to see the versatility, serve as a tiebreaker and put all tiers on same level.
b) next fly may be any fly you choose to tie, natural or synthetic materials, as long as you tie it & it's NOT pre-made or utilize standard fishing lures (ie; plastic worms, minnows, etc).

3. There will be a "contest image" that must be downloaded & printed by you, this image must appear in all pics of flies you enter. This image will be made available on this forum starting the day day contest begins.

4. All entries must be uploaded to a photo website & linked (using UBB code [img][/img] ), that means all entrants will have 2 images...it is not a photography contest, BUT presentation means a lot, use Macro settings, ensure you have adequate lighting, a non-cluttered background (I use a sheet of blank paper behind mine) will help your pic a great deal.

5. Scoring - at the point the contest is complete, we will have a poll for all forum members to vote on their favorite flies in both categories (like we presently do with FlyOTM).
Judges will pick their top 3 in each of the 2 categories as well. These scores will combined to pick 1st, 2nd & 3rd place. The judges will be looking at proportions, color (combinations), fishiness, practicality, & that ever present intangible sex appeal.

6. At the present time our prizes are limited to flies donated by members, I will arrange for some type of trophy/certificate/award (no matter how weird it is)for 1st place...if anyone wants to donate a prize please contact me, we will be grateful.

7. I am sure some questions will arise, I hope they can be solved quickly and fairly by using some basic common sense, this is for fun only and while we will award a 1, 2, 3 finish order, everyone is a winner just for entering, you may be surprised at how well you do, and nothing motivates one to do better than a little friendly competition. This is basically same as we are presently doing with FOTM and FlyOTM with a few twists thrown in & lets keep it simple.

8. If you have any questions send me a PM

9. Have Fun

Has anyone tried taking a macro picture of a fly with a "contest image" in it? I would think that will be difficult to have them both in focus.

Question - is the image really necessary for this type of contest? I understand using one to prove that fish was caught during a specific time period, but flies don't expire so all that it will prove in this contest is that the picture was taken during the contest time, but the fly could have been tied years ago.

I like the overall contest format, but I'm not sure that requiring the image to be included adds anything more that just making the pictures harder to take.

a very good point Rex, as you can see I am flying by the seat of my pants on this & a pic of a fly is hard enough without a large piece of paper filling the viewfinder...so...the image is null & void.

How about this...make sure the date on your camera is on. That way your photo would be dated. But of course some crafty individual could get around that. But they could with the other image too. I have the date always turned on for my camera. But sometimes MY DAUGHTER likes to turn it off when she takes those photos of herself with MY CAMERA. Sometimes I forget to check the date option, but that won't interfere with trying to take a photo, and it would help weed out old flies someone may of made. This would help ensure it is a new fly, tied for THIS contest.

wont work kelly, not all cameras have a date stamp, I have 2 and I know my Canon (which I use most) doesn't...everyone is on the honor system, its just a contest for fun & not really anything anyone would/should cheat in anyway.

What about everyone at least donating their contest flies?

that sounds good, BUT some may be (hopefully) entering the best flies they have ever tied & may not want to part with them. I think a "fly drive" for charity could be a whole separate event.

No dice bro, I fish my flies, and thus decorate the trees under the water. I trust that the fine persons that sell my tying wares contribute for the greater good.

I figured I'd get the ball rollin, I had 4 #12 hooks that I tie lil' boogers on for the bluegills, my first looked good until I took a picture, my next 2 sucked, my last one was barely better than the first but I am out of hooks. These are the normal wooly boogers I tie, nothing special but they do catch bluegills(catfish too)

btw, yes I am heading up this but also entering, I hold no advantage in this,(I seriously hope I don't win, I can tie, but there are much better than me around here) I am NOT a judge, the judges are Dave Speer, Kelkay, RRyne 56...so there, you know who to send bribes to.

August 31 is still a ways off but I don't figure I'm gonna do anything much better than this by then, just a basic hard-working bass bug...so my; 1) mandatory woolley booger and now my; 2) contest fly are both in.
