That helps. I knew there must be some reason people were not blowing things up.

Thanks John for clearing this up!!!! And for thous of you with the US2 set up if you hook up the ground from the trolling motor side of your tournament saver pro to the main ground going to your trolling motor you should never have any kind of issues at all. This unit is never connected to the ground or the positive until you push the button.Thank again John for the input.

So what you mean is never connect it up to the point where the two batteries are wired together in order to achieve 24v.

only if you have the US2 setup. If you do not have the US 2 setup you can hook it were ever you wont to. And by the way if you do blow the fuse i found out it's a 3A blade fuse that takes about 15 minuets to change.

I think you've done a great job explaining the ground issues between 24V and 12V systems, John (Jones Trolling Motor).
I don't think SaltyDawg88 over in the "wiring verification" thread completely understood that you were telling him he was wiring to the wrong battery in the 24V pair.
I've even had professionals (dealers/mechanics) try to wire my batteries incorrectly, not understanding grounding issues or figuring hooking to one battery is the same as the other. I have a warning tag on the battery connectors for my switch wires that still gets overlooked.
Complicate this with 36V systems with three batteries, 24V systems that have a jumper inside a Marinco plug connector (like mine), and inconspicuous grounds like the MinnKota US2, I can see why you advise the average boater to simply not attempt a do-it-yourself.
There really aren't many good diagrams showing the right way to wire things like a battery switch or push-button jumper system or even use jumper cables between troll and starting batteries.
Although my dealer warned me about my old switch connections, I did not fully understand the concept underlying his warning until you explained ground issues. Thank you for the continuing educatiion.
