As a drop shot nut myself, I view this product as nothing more than an offering to take advantage of angler laziness. Getting the hook to stand out and hook point up as we know is no big deal. The photo of the bait has snag written all over it here in Texas where we have structure, snag it as pictured and you're going to lose the rig, $$$$$ and I know hundreds of DSers and not a one of them exposes the hook point.

Just curious but how do you rig a dropshot without exposing the hook?

I have some knowledge of the dropshot rig and its practical applications used year round on Lake Fork, from 6" inches of water to 35'foot of water. For virtually 4-years we used it solely to see what it could do. The results were staggering; the amount of tournament success was enlightening, and fun.

There is but one choice for us when it comes to hooks, I don't talk about this much-so-take it for what it is..

The Gammy straight shank bronze hook 1/0 was the all around performer. For larger baits obviously increase your hook size. We primarily use 4&6 GrandeBass Indigo wormsmuch like a zoom trick worm.

This lil jewel will take on a huge fish and win 98% of the time, only time it didn't was because of my bad or tired knots.

I only fish it TX rigged, IMO-there is no other way to fish it in all types of cover.

Unfortunately for us, our success has bred a new type of competitive tournament angler on Lake Fork. It is what it is... Aren't we all looking for the next new technique to out perform our competition.. I am...

Billy, do you do anything to keep baits from sliding down that straight shank hook? I started going with the worm bend owner 1/0 because of the slippage and gammys bending out too easy (but I never tried the bronze).

The bronze will bend.... but only after a great amount of pull, provided your leader is strong enough..
The slipage will occur if the bait is worn or you've caught another fish prior.. I know this will sound stupid to some..I believe every fish deserves a new worm.. I never re:use a worm that's caught a fish...It's done it's job, and I'm thankful.
The bronze will have two barbs, that helps hold the worm in place..If you've made 25-30 hard thrown cast without a fish --I would replace it.. A worn out worm will hang up to easy, keep a fresh bait on, it'll increase you positive presentaion time 2-fold. I buy those hooks in the ecno pk 25-hooks also.. It reduces cost, your gonna lose hooks no matter what--that's fishing..

To help keep it from sliding down I use some ~#50 test and push it through the bait and hookeye. Work for me.
